i totally agree with the last 2 reviews. This is a great little course with plenty of undulations, links like qualities and stand out features like the timber bridge over the hills. But the service was a little disappointing as even though we played this on a stupid cold day in december and granted the winter greens were in play, the pro neglected to tell us that all the par 3's were out of play and the long par 5 was divided in to two. Needless to say navigation was somewhat tricky but the locals were more than helpful when we got lost, a lot. Would love to play again now we know where we are going and in the summer without the silly winter green situation.

Did not bring my A or B game, it rained, my new clubs were playing up, and I got very tired - but a lovely course full of ups and downs, with Augusta -like greens when wet! A bit difficult to find your way round - it meanders about on two concentric circles, I think! Some excellent driving holes, long par 4s and a huge par 5. The par 3s are ok, and the short par 4s around the middle are little disappointing, but excellent value for a 2 o'clock tee off in midweek at £20! pity June 2011 was wet!

we played at whitley bay on the 23rd june on the "twighlight" scheme (i say twighlight very losely as it was 6.30pm and we played the last 2 holes in near darkness)!! on arrival we were told we would have to tee off 10 minutes later than our 6.30 tee time as the medal comp was running late. the guy in shop didnt seem very helpful and was quiet dismissive of my party of 4. anyway, this aside, the course was in my opinion very, very good and i enjoyed my game greatly. the 1st is a par 5 and a good way to open your round. the second is a par 4 then the 3rd is a par 3 so it makes the course feel very well established and the greens were immaculate. each hole is very well laid out and the scenery is beautiful. i can remember saying to one of my playing partners we could have been somewhere in the borders of scotland if i hadnt known better. for £15 its reasonably priced and i would love to play the course again, possibly earlier but i wouldnt pay the 30 odd quid for a standard round, and i think its definately a "members" course! if youre in the local area and looking for a game at a links course i would highly recommend whitley bay. i hope to return soon if the club re-think their visitor fee's or change the twighlight time to 4 or even 5pm. 6.30 is far too late in my opinion!!!!!! i have rated value for money on the full green fee.
