Recently played this course for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Despite the slightly tired clubhouse, the course was in immaculate condition with the greens playing very well.
I am looking forward to my next opportunity to get back out on the course and try to improve my score!
Played here August 08 (£25 using a county card).
Superb course & a hidden gem.
It's a mystery why West Byfleet doesn't get bracketted in with the nearby & more celebrated 3 W's (Woking, West Hill & Worplesdon)as, for my money, the only one it doesn't beat is Woking.
Initial impressions are a little uninspiring as the fairly mundane looking clubhouse is ,literally, right next to a busy main road & behind a wooden fence. As you go round the back ,the 2 holes you see look reasonable but give no real clues as to whats in store.
What transpires is an excellent ,attractive, heavily tree lined track which is as enjoyable as anything i've played in Surrey.A real pleasure from start to finish & there wasn't one hole on the course that i didn't like.
What you get is; most holes with their own tree lined definition, heather ,classic design & bunkering ,a great collection of par 3's (the longest of which was 162 yards, which = enjoyable + a cracking, downhill 13th over water), easy walking ,a good mix of holes with a decent amount of entertaining ,shortish par 4's ,inparticular the 5th & 8th and it finishes with a par 5 which i like as an 18th.
Very minor shortcomings were, although they ran really well, the greens cosmetically were recovering from having had work done on them & the fairways ,although decent, i've seen lusher this Summer.
Also ,although perfectly adequate, i did'nt feel that the clubhouse & surrounds were quite befitting for a course of this quality.
Overall though ,definitely recommended.

Nice course in good condition, greens in good nick and very pleasant surroundings. Slightly spoilt by fairways in average condition and three par 4's at around 290 yards - so the non member rate of £50 means I won't be rushing back - £35 or £40 probably a fairer rate.
I found that west Byfleet was a great course to play. The greens have been kept in fantastic condition and there are some interesting dog-legs around the course. The bunkers are well placed and pose a threat. The only let down of the club was the unfriendly atmosphere towards new people, i walked in and found myself stared at by several unfriendly looking glares. Overall great course!
Ihave played the West Byfleet course on several occasions and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. The course is an easy walking course and although there are some long par 4's, there are also some short par 4's so it really is a course for everyone. The greens are always in very good condition and the course represents excellent value for money for society days. Very friendly staff in the Clubhouse and Secretary Office .Changing facilities have recently been refurbished and are very comfortable. Halfway house is excellent!!
I found West Byfleet to be a wonderful course to play on and was beautifully presented. I was very impressed with the green staff and how friendly they were towards the golfers, which made a pleasent change. I would definately play this course again when next visiting the UK. However i found the club house to present an unfriendly atmosphere towards strangers, which left one feeling uneasy. To end on a good note i would like to add once again how superb the greens were kept.
Yours Sincerely
