4 reviews of Vivary Park Golf Course

Played this course for about 5-6 years, a good challenge, staff friendly, suffers with poor drainage so made the leap and joined a big couse. paid around £250 for unlimited golf so excellent value when not affected by the rain, get a lot of hackers at weekends (all have to start somewhere, I had too). Highly recommend

very short quirky course.you must be able to hit straight to score well, the safe option to use 3 wood off tee for position the greens are very small targets to hit but are mostly in excellent condition. The course suffers in the summer from heavy traffic being pay and play, unrepaired pitch marks etc.All and all an excellent test of golf for all standards, but listen to the better golfers moan about not being able to rip it.

I today (05.12.05) played this course and I thought it was a total waste of money. We arrived and paid £12.50 (although fees were meant to have been £12) and went to the 1st tee. Every green had leaves, branches and clumps of mud on etc etc on and was not in good condition. We found out whilst on the course, 2 of the holes were shut (5 & 6) and the tee for the 7th was also closed and we were not even told in the 1st place when we paid and there was nothing on the info board. Over all, I would never dream of coming back here. Although the 2 holes were closed, I grossed the course at 59, Level Par, but by god it was hard work. P R Jones Barnstaple North Devon

Vivary is a reasonable golf course offering the high handicap players a challenge but perhaps not enough to keep low handicap players interested. It is conviently located near the centre of Taunton, which can mean it get very busy at weekends. The times I've played there the greens have been of variable quality, having said that for a municipal course and the price they're fine. In summary probably not worth travelling for but for a high handicaper in the area it's good value.
