Played here yesterday with a friend for the first time. Courtesy of an online booking we managed to get on for the princely sum of £21.50 each which was superb value for money. The course starts with a very easy par 4, short and all downhill. A good solid drive would see you on the green (or thereabouts). I nearly eagled the hole when my short chip from just off the green hit the flag and finished a tap in from the hole. My friend also birdied it, so we both had a good start to our rounds. Quite a longish trek from there to the second hole, and after the easy first we had plenty of time to think about what was ahead of us whilst we walked to the second tee. Would it all be this easy?? When we got to the second, we could see it wasn't. A really nice par 4, slightly doglegging to the right for your second shot. And so it goes on. Tyrells Wood was a complete surprise to us. I had heard of it before, although my friend hadn't, and both of us were very impressed with the layout of the course and the general condition. Beautifully manicured fairways, good greens which, whilst not super fast, were in great condition and true. Apart from the first hole, which I personally thought was a little "weak", there is not another bad hole on the course. There are some real crackers and we will definitely be going back again despite it being a two hour drive away for me. We received a terrific welcome in the pro shop, the guy behind the counter couldn't have been more helpful, showing us where the two starting tees were, and explaining the holes. All in all one of our better days out. It is a bit hilly in places, my legs were aching as I walked up the 17th. It's not the sort of course you would want to play 36 holes on (unless you were super fit) but I can guarantee that for a good 18 holes it is well worth the visit.

Have played Tyrrells Wood on a number of occasions. Great woodland course always kept in good condition. Only two par 5s (7th and 12th), but both are long and challenging. The 7th in my view is the signature hole with an elevated tee needing a good opening shot. Greens are excellent - there is usually a right and wrong side to approach them from. A bit hilly in parts, particularly 1st green to 2nd tee and 10th green to 11th tee. Great course, though. I always love playing it.

I was privileged to play here on a society day a couple of years ago and can't recommend it highly enough. This is a wonderfully kept course, in a beautiful fold of the North Downs, so the walking can be a little up and down. If it wasn't a golf course, it would be an arboretum. There are various wild orchids as well as a fantastic variety of trees... The club house is old-established and very comfortable, with a lovely outlook. Interesting contraption ('mirror on a stick') to see when the first green is clear... Great day out if you're an amateur botanist, or just love the English countryside. Nothing would spoil THIS walk.... not even the golf !!
