2 reviews of The New Mills Golf Club
Firstly, New Mills just open up a new 9 holes to make it 18 holes.I was overall impressed with the new nine holes, although the first par 3 is not good. But there are some interesting and challenging holes holes on the new nine.
The second nine is more mature and in some cases more challenging especially the 12th (quarry hole) and the 16th. The 16th tee being at the top of the course with spectacular views of Manchester and the green being 230 yards away and 100 below. The tee shot when hit well is one of the most enjoyable sights in golf!
The club house is a bit pokey but you'll get good food and a good welcome.
Visit this club on a clear day for the 16th hole alone! I'm from Derby and I'm going back.
I have played at the New Mills course for a couple of years now and I am enjoying it immensly and I now play off a 7 handicap. The course begins with a wide open but testing par 3 of about 200 yards flat. The 2nd hole is a relativly easy par 4 witch slightly curves from right to left with an open green to attack. The 3rd hole is a short but strategicly positioned par 4 as the tee is in the bottom of a small disused filled in quary so you have to hit your tee shot with hieght to get over the top of the quary. The 4th is an easy short par 4 with no obstachles what so ever. The 5th is a long slog uphill but once again a simple 525 yarder to finish on the top of the hill. The 6th is a very short par 3 with a little ledge before the green and a very receptive bunker. The 7th is a very steep downhill par 3 with a lot of wind interfearence. The 8th is an easy par 4 with a blind drive. The 9th is a tough long par 4 with a lot of bunkers and a well protected green.
