An outstanding experience in every respect. I have played at Sunningdale once a year for each of the last three years. Whilst it is undoubtedly best when the sun is shining and the weather fair, I can find no fault even in torrential rain (as unfortunately happened this year). The course is lovingly cared from tee to green and even between holes. The tee boxes are level and well prepared with the tee markers regularly rotated to ensure that they are well maintained. The fairways are also in excellent condition, closely cut and divots are regularly filled in. The greens are outstanding, consistent from hole to hole and putts roll very true. The bunkers are consistent throughout the course and are regularly and properly raked. The holes, as one would expect from a Colt and Morrison design, are an excellent and fair test of golf. There is nothing 'tricksy' about their layout; good shots will be rewarded and bad shots punished. All of the holes are truly distinct from each other and for the vast majority you struggle to see another hole from the one on which you are playing, this lends itself to a sense of seclusion. If one were to be hyper critical there are not really spectacular views from the course but the heather in full bloom is more than adequate compensation. Speaking of which, when you (inevitably) find the heather you will realise what a devilish and wiry little plant this is. It is difficult to advance the ball much more than about 100 yards or so from it (for the most part), you have to take your medicine and hope to get up and down to make par. It is far from impossible for a decent club golfer to score well on this testing track but if you do then you will undoubtedly feel a real sense of accomplishment. As for the clubhouse and other facilities I cannot speak too highly of any aspect. The food has always been excellent and the service and hospitality is what one would expect from such a well renowned club. The bar prices are very respectable and in that sense unremarkable. Sunningdale, both the old and new courses, is the highlight of my golfing year. I look forward to playing there for many years to come and I am confident that it will continue to be maintained at the high standards that are befitting of a true English gem.

Played the Old Course on a lovely day - rare, I know this year - in August. The course was in very good condition considering the rain we have had. Greens were pretty slick and true. Fairways are great on the eye, everything you would expect to be presented right was spot on. This is not an overly long course, ceratinly by modern standards, and I think it's fair to say you'd benefit from taking a wood to long iron off several tees as opposed to the big stick. Some really good risk reward holes, with a couple of driveable par 4s that probably aren't worth taking on once you see the trouble that abounds. The signature hole 5th is a stunner - a proper golf hole. Add to that a whole series of quality holes, and this is a trip to remember. Was fortunate enough to sample the catering afterwards which was top class.

Sunningdale Golf Club is a course which all golfers must play. I enjoyed a golf society here in August playing both the Old and the New courses and honestly can't remember a better days golf - given that I am 64 that is an experienced head speaking! The courses are very playable and suitable for all handicaps - they are fair and reward course management rather than big hitting off the tee. I would play here all day if I could! My favourite golf course by a mile, Sunningdale can not be beaten.

Without doubt the best 36 holes of golf you can play in the UK. Despite the courses being very close to each other the old and the new courses offer something quite different with one being rather treelined (old) and the new being a little more open with exposure to the elements a little more. Although the old is possibly more famous than the new due to its tournament heritage, the new was more difficult in my opinion. We enjoyed a superb lunch in the very traditional clubhouse (full of historic golfing photos on the walls). All in all this is a great place to spend the day (£155 for both courses). The old course is very playable with some reachable par-5's and fairly short par-4's (providing you are on the fairway and not in the bountiful heather). Although I didn't play to my handicap on either courses (too much time in the heather) I had one of my most enjoyable days golf I can remember. Miles better than it's illustrious neighbour Wentworth in my opinion.

Played both courses over 2 days during early Setember 2010, What a fantastic venue, the staff were absolutely great especially as myself and 7 others were celebrating my 50th birthday. Nothing was too much trouble. The courses are as great as they say, if you want to play some of the finest courses in the UK just go you will not be dissapointed. We plan to return and just cant wait, many thanks Sunningdale staff especiaally the guys in the caddy masters office. Thanks John Hill

Not long by modern standards the place has plenty of other defences to keep you from scoring. The bunkers are are deep and well positioned. The greens (we played on 15 October) were very pacy for the time of year. A special treat to be savoured however poorly you score. By the way the halfway house is every bit as good as folklore suggests!

We played here on 15th September. As have been previously mentioned, Sunningdale exudes quality, character and history. We had this opportunity following a raincheck from back in the Spring when the course was waterlogged. It was well worth the wait. As soon as you pull up to the electronic gates, you know you're entering somewhere special and it didn't disappoint. Although this isn't one of the the better quality "golf society stop-offs" such as The Belfry or Celtic Manor, we were made to feel very comfortable and welcome by the Pro-Shop, Starter and Clubhouse staff. The complimentary tea and coffee was a good touch following our two- hour drive to the club and allowed us to sit down and read the honours boards with the many, many golfing legends who've played and won here over the Old Course. Having watched the Women's British Open here a few months ago, the course was familiar to us, and it was great to follow in their footsteps. The tees and fairways were in pristine condition, although personally I was disappointed in the bunkers as they didn't seem to be of a quality that I'd expect of such a place. The sand was too shallow before you reached the clay base and too many stones for my liking. In addition whilst the greens were OK, they weren't particularly fast (although they did have tricky undulations)and not the smoothest I've ever putted on either. Having said that, the layout is exceptional and most of the holes required a tee-shot to clear a fair amount of heather in front of the tees. The course isn't long (just over 6000 yards off the yellows) but it was the history that oozed from every heather-clad mound that made for a special day. We paid £105 for the occasion (that is the springtime rate) and was worth every penny.

Played here in April. Played the 36 holes and is well worth its reputation!! Played the New course in the morning and it really is a test, but a fantastic one at that. There is heather in play on a number of holes, and off the whites it was a long track, with a number of par 4's over 420 yards. It is immaculate in its appearance. We had lunch in between rounds, which was fantastic, if not a little annoying that you have to put on a shirt and tie. We then played the Old course and all i can say is, if you ever get a chance then play it. it is spectacular. The morning course was very good, the Old course is sensational. The condition is again first class and there are some great holes to be played. I found it more interesting, with plenty of tree lined fairways, and similar to Wentworth, the local mansions peering over the trees into the fairways. The tenth has to be one of the best driving holes in golf, you feel that you are top of the trees as you tee off. All round, it is well worth a visit. It is an expensive place, but for a one off, i couldn't recommend it enough!

Played both courses on 15 August 2007. Both are stunning, the New being predominately heathland and the Old lined with oak and pine. The heather was in full bloom. Although the New is slightly tougher I would have to give the Old the nod as the better of the two tracks simply because of the views. You simply could not find two better inland courses anywhere in the UK (except perhaps the Kings at Gleneagles). If you ever get the chance to play them don't be put off by the green fee.

Like St Andrews, the Old Course is the more famous yet the New offers more of a challenge apparently. Played the New in early April and thought it was fantastic. Members were polite to us, although you do need to mind your P's & Q's like any private club like this. All staff friendly. Wouldn't have minded a caddy but at £35 per round (plus tip!) didn't think it was worthwhile. The only other thing I can say is that most golfers remember the first time they teed it up on an 18 hole golf course as a hacker with no handicap, well remember how nervous you felt and how you could feel all the eyes watching you - this feeling suddenly takes over again! It doesn't matter how long you've played the game, playing somewhere like this turns you into the quivering wreck you were when your Dad first took you down the local Municipal! Fantastic experience, one of the world's great inland courses.

Only managed to play the New Course, new being a relative term given it dates back to 1922. A superb golfing experience. Immaculately maintained and laid out course. However it could turn into a golf scoring nightmare if you struggle off the tee, or can't keep your approaches straight, as the heather in front of the tees and either side of tight fairways leaps up to grab you club as you try to swing through it. Excellent value as a golfing treat.

This is a brilliant golf club with the best 36 holes of golf around. The club is very tradional but the new locker rooms are great. Once you get on the course it just blows you away. The Old is prettier than the New but the New is arguably the tougher of the two. Both are great fun to play and well worth the £140 day ticket.

Pure Class! A finer course you're unlikely to find. The Clubhouse is a gourgeous old Mansion house split into different rooms for visitors and members and societies. You even get separate changing rooms. Beautiful practice putting area, which I suggest you use, because the greens here are well looked after and are fast! The New course is beautifully manicured, tree lined and has pockets of gorse and heather to make things difficult. The bunker placements are perfect making this the more difficult of the 2 courses. The Old course is simply stunning. I certainly would not say it is the most difficult of courses, but you will lose shots and the near impossible to read greens. The 2 courses intersect at the 10th where you can stop at one of the nicest halfway huts for a brief stop and refreshments. Don't be brave, stop, relax and enjoy the most sumptuous surroundings of any golf course you'll play

I have been fortunate enough to play both of these courses a few times, most recently the new. It's an excellent and classic layout that is very tight off the tee with heather and pine trees bordering every fairway. The best policy is to take the driver and just go for it. That way if you do miss the fairways at least you shouldn't have too much club for your approach shots. Some of the holes call for shaping the tee shots around the subtle dog legs while others such as the 15th, demand you aim right and hit it tight to the tree line so as to leave an easier second. The place is very exclusive so you'll just have to except the intimidation factor that is everywhere. My only real criticism is the greens which although generally very good are perhaps somewhat out of character in that they are predominatly meadow grass and a bit soft for a heathland course. I would prefer it if they made it a policy to stop the feeding and watering and get them back to how they should be i.e. firm and very fast.

Splurge and buy a day ticket because in the Old and the New you have two of the most interesting, best kept and challenging courses anywhere. You actually get arguments between 'New' people and 'Old' people. Put it this way, if I had to toss a coin to choose, I wouldn't care which way it came down. The Old is slightly more distinctive, the New probably has more hard holes on it. If you come in with a good score on either, then never stop telling your friends and the wisest among them will give you due respect. P.S. Also has one of the nicest clubhouses in the world.

An extremely enjoyable and first class course. Of importance to me was the easy accessibility by train from London. I was in London on vacation with my wife in October of 99, and found I was able to take the underground (with clubs over my shoulder) to Waterloo station, and then a train to Sunningdale where it was a 5-minute walk from the station to the course. While the greens fee is somewhat high, the course is well worth it.

Sunningdale is a picturesque golf club with two heathland courses. It has a wonderfull atmosphere and is a joy to play. I would rank both courses amongst the highest in the world. However, it is very exclusive and is expensive to play.
