In my opinion this is one of the best municipal courses in the north west and is excellent value. Recent course improvements have a positive impact on the course.
QUITE A NICE COURSE, THE RECENT WORK HAS REMOVED SOME OF THE CHARACTER BUT IN TIME I'M SURE NEW PLANTATIONS WILL COME INTO PLAY. THE ADDITION OF DRAINAGE DITCHES ACROSS FAIRWAYS AND THE ODD POND HERE AND THERE HAVE CHANGED SOME HOLES DRAMATICALLY. OVERALL THE IMPROVED DRAINAGE HAS REMOVED A LOT OF SURFACE WATER ESPECIALLY ON THE BACK 9.
As a player i am not as experienced as most ,however i have played golf for around 4 years now and this course has got to be one of the best that i have played. taking into account that it is only a municipal , anytime i hav played the course , the condition has been superb and on the whole an enjoyable experince, not to mention the price which is fantastic. having read some reports , most say that holes are similar and straigt , however they more than make up for with each having theyre own unique and indiviual green and surroundings.
i cannot recommend this course enough , in terms of golfing satisfaction and reasonable prcing, this course offers both.
great course to get used to playing 18 holes as the fairways are wide and the holes straight. only one hole out of 18 is a dog leg-even thats only around 320 yards
the par 3 eighth although only 130 yards is probably the hardest hole on the course as its blind tee shot and plenty of bunkers around
as has been said previously holes 12-14-15-17 on the back nine are very similar indeed (4 longish par 4s) and 10-11-18 are much the same for 3 shorter par 4s
this course will not test any good golfer. but myself having a handicap of 20 i play on it regularly and am quite happy-my 10 year old son can also get round (once he stops thinking every shot he hits will go 200 yards !!!!!!)
decent value for money
Played here on 11 June in a competition supporting disabled golfers. I have to say that looking at the difficulties some of these brave golfers have to cope with puts our own troubles into context.
Found the course quite monotonous, especially the back 9 which seemed to be one long, straight par 4 after another. Proper tees weren't in use so we were teeing off from the fairways, there were lots of unrepaired divots and the greens were long and slow. Nowhere to get a drink on the way round on what was a red hot day and all in all not a course I'd return to save for supporting another worthwhile event.
Far too easy, too straight and not well taken care of. youll find people who have no knowledge of course manners such as letting people play through you. 1st green in terrible state as a divot taken out of it was straight on my line of putt. good for a beginner bbut will fail to test more experienced golfers.
This Course isnt too bad, but the holes are far to straight, Some cahallenging shots at the 4th with a 50 foot wide bunker AKA The Great Wall of China but genrally refered to as The Wall. I like the improvements made to 5th,6th,12th,13th and 14th alll in all not too bad at all!!

Played this course for the first time last saturday and very much enjoyed it.
As I am a beginner(few months), and played with a mate even less experienced, we don't really have a state of reference, but I would like to state my comments anyway.
Front 9 nice and varied, with a few difficult second shots.Back 9 like everyone says, very long and can get a bit boring, but a very good opportunity to up the driving a bit as fairways are wide and forgiving.
Will be returning to this course in a few weeks, as it is one of the only affordable ones in the area.
played this once very nice challenging links course for my first time club house and pro shop excellent. course recommended as it is a links and reasonably priced
I played the course twice last week.
I thought it provided excellent value for money - £8 per round. The greens were in good condition.
I has 2 critisms - Most of the tees were just placed on the fairway and there were no tee markers.
Playing well (for me) always makes me warm to a course.
I enjoyed the Par 3 eighth, which I parred on both occasions. You cannot see the flag from the tee and has bunkers to trap a slightly off line shot.
Although there are some longish Par 4s, there are also several shorter ones which offer birdie opportunities.
I played early in the morning when the course had few players. Later on you can get held up by slower players
I live just down the road from this course and play for the local junior team who play their golf here. The course is a fair test as the rounds coming in prove. Back nine too long and has some helishly long par 4's. The 12 is incredibly long and has the wind against you on most occasions. Good Course, friendly atmosphere, lots of first timers but if you ask nicely they tend to let you play through. Good course and compared to other courses in Southport great value for money.
A lot of hackers around however the course is still in good condition. Front 9 quite varied however back 9 very straight (Forward). Still a good test as is normally failry windy.
Course in very good condition and have enjoyed some testing rounds. Far too long and straight on the back nine though..bit more variety needed!!
A good, well maintained MUNICIPAL... Greens in quite good knick...
Rounds can take a while has lots of Hackers can be in front of you...
Too straight... no dog legs at all.. however in Wind a fair test... quite cheap too.
