7 reviews of Southampton Municipal Golf Course

Played the course on 17/03/07, for the time of year and the wet weather that we have had the course was in excellent condition with only a couple of holes that we had to take relief from due to water or being extremely muddy. Found the golf to be extremely challenging with a good mixture of holes. There are a couple of par 4's over 450 yards that the long hitters out there will love! All in all a very enjoyable round of golf and when I next visit Southampton I will definatly consider a visit there again. Only paid £20 for a round at the weekend, you won't do any better than that. My only complaint would be that there was no pro shop as it was in the process of being taken over by Nevada Bobs's (but I belive it opened this week).

A beautiful parkland course with plenty to offer. I found all holes tricky and offered a challenge with my intermediate handicap of 15. In top condition this has to be one of the best courses around. I must agree with Rodregas and his friend Cheech. If you get the chance give some action.

What a great golfing challenge.....if this were a private course it would be the best in the area (which it may soon be). However, it is still one of the best municipal courses in the country.

One of the top courses in England - but go in quiet period as it gets very busy and a round can take 4 1/2 hours plus.

I am 18 years old and have been a member here for 3 years, it is a tough course especially in the winter when the long par 4's are playing the full length of their 430+ yardage. of course being a muni it is overplayed and the greens suffer, but with a bit of money and patience this course could be superb. There is always a friendly reception in the club house. It is well worth the effort to come and play here around spring or autumn when the course is at its best

This is a municipal course and unfortunately suffers through being overplayed. However, it is a very demanding test of golf and if it were a private course, it would possibly be the best course in the county. After a gentle short par 3 start, you go straight into stroke index 1 on the second. 469 yards, oob left, ditch across the fairway to catch a long drive, raised green protected by a deep bunker. Easy par 4 !!!! This course has 5 par 4's of 430+ yards and only 1 par 5 so you have to work very hard for your score. The 8th and 17th are spectacular holes over the same gully to the green. All in all, if you are in the area, don't be put off by the fact that this is a municipal. Book your tee time and enjoy.
