Overall good muni, there are cheaper but don't mind paying a few more quid for a nicer course. A couple of nice Par 3's and green's well kept. Bunkers almost unplayable! Locals seemed very rude, had a 2ball behind us who's attitude was almost as bad as their dress code and etiquette! Surely polo's and golf shoes are a minimum standard!?

Played today for first time, really nice course. A few blind shots on front nine made it interesting, back 9 not overly long but good fun with driveable par 4,s. Greens were very good with real subtle breaks near hole, didnt have a straight putt all day even the short ones needed thinking about. will definately play here again, a good challenge for all handicaps

Having read the previous comments , i agree the back 9 isnt long, but this is a different challenge(i.e big hits=big slices)and is still difficult. the course condition is excellent and up there with the private clubs. the green fees are fair(15 quid on a weekend), but late summer after 2 on mondays and tuesdays its £8, yes £8.... one of my favourite courses and a real challenge every time... p.s i play off 12 and struggle for 36 points

Played the course on friday 17th April 2009.
Course is playing well after a dry spell.
There are 2 holes on winter greens which can be against playing as other courses are all open with 18 greens. No reduction.
Could be ajusted.check before you play.

The course through the weather was somewhat wet,the 9th hole was on winter green. It has been closed most days in the summer. The ground staff try and keep it in top condition. The front 9 is harder than the back 9.Overall its a good course to play but we think the green fees are high compared to the private clubs around.
The club house has a vary of meals and they serve a good pint.
You have to book your tee times at the pro shop and mostly always its slow play as you go around.it took us 3hrs to do 10 holes(4BBB)

played sherdley park on the 31st of may. tee time 09.47. did,nt get off the course till 13.45. this course needs some signs for slow play. we were only a 2 ball but had to keep waitng on at least 6 tees. such a pity as the course is in great condition. the greens are very good and the fairways as well. will go back there hoping there is signs up for the fairweather and summer players, but not at weekends.

Sheredley my homecourse, and what a lucky person i am having it on my doorstep. Challenging front nine, but make sure you carry a Kingcobra driver and you wont go far wrong, the back nine is easier but still alot of traps to avoid. Lovely greens for a municipal and looked after fairways, the best Municipal i have ever played and probably ever will.

On the 29/09/07 Our society played this course, what great little gem this turned out to be, the last time I played this course was about 7 years ago, and at that time is was not good. This course is in almost top notch condition, the only thing that let it down at time of our visit was some of the greens had been drained! (I think), but having said that, when this re grows, this course will be on a par (excuse the pun) with the best of them, the only other thing was some of the bunkers need a little more sand. As regards to the last comment about short holes, well in my case it don’t half make you fell good when you are a couple of yards of the green after your drive, but then down to earth when you take another four attempts to put the bloody ball in the hole.
And of course the 19 hole, Great little club house, and you must try a pint of Murphy’s in here, my golf was s**t but the ale was great

This is a well kept maintained Municipal course with very good greens. However the back 9 is far too short with many of the par 4 holes driveable from the tee. I even seen some juniors put the ball on the green on some par 4 holes. I believe a par 4 should not be reachable in 1 shot even for big hitters. You should always have at least a mid iron even after a good drive. Obviously I posted my personal best score here. It makes you think you are better than you are then reality sets in when you play a long challenging course. A few signposts on the approach roads would be good idea too. It must be hard to find the bridge for non locals.
Last time I played the group in front were drinking cans of beer and throwing their empty cans on the middle of the fairways. This is disgraceful and should not be tolerated. It seems to be a Merseyside thing this as I seen the same at Bowring Park and Bootle.
Having said all that I always enjoy playing here. The greens are really good and in general the course is well kept. But its more suitable for beginners than say mid to single figure handicappers who will find it far too short and lacking in challenge. Good golfin.

As municipals go, this has to be one of the best. Although the clubhouse doesnt look great, the staff are pleasant, and the greenkeepers do a fine job making sure it stays in decent nick. It is always an enjoyable round, with a great variety of challenging holes suitable for all ability levels.
Your golf game is not the only thing to be tested at Sherdley - a good level of fitness is also a must - the hill up to the 13th tee is an absolute killer!

AS A REGULAR AT SHERDLEY PARK I CAN HONESTLY SAY I NEVER GET BORED WITH THE COURSE. IT IS WELL MAINTAIN AND CHALLENGING.
HAVE A FRONT NINE NIGHTMARE AND ITS PRETTY FAIR TO SAY THAT YOU CAN RECOVER ON THE BACK NINE, THE TWO SHORT HOLES (11 AND 12) ARE ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO PLAY
RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. AND AT £14.00 QUID A ROUND ISNT BAD VALUE.

enjoyed the course (a really good muni) an excellent chance for any handicap to come away with a good score. a couple of drivable par 4's and a couple of tricky ones makes for a good days golf.

I agree with the impression of "FORT APACHE,THE BRONX" but do not let this put you off.
The booking staff were a bit "jobsworth",again do not let it put you off.
Remember to bring a Sherpa or Edmund Hillary for the 13th
the course was nice and sited in a pretty part of st helens
very enjoyable!!!
will go again

As someone who misses a lot of GIR i found the chipping experience at Sherdley to be fair, varied and occasionally challenging. Perhaps a few more slopey greens would add to the challenge, I did enjoy having to navigate the false fronts on both 3 and 4 and the big slope through the green at 16.

Superb greens, exellent course in general, lots of hilly terrain with picturesque settings. On the downside, overpopulated with long waiting periods between shots,no bunker rakes.8/10 but very should be a 10/10

This is a very good course to play on. It has an excellent mix of holes. There are many hills which makes this course quite a good one for exercise. It's maintained very well, with some excellent greens. This course will never bore you because of the variety in all the holes. I really recommend this place.
Now, the other thing is, how to get there, because it is very tricky. As you are going into St. Helens from the south on the A570, you will go under a very fancy looking bridge. A few yards after that, there is a left turn. Take it, and keep following the road to the left. You will see a road which takes you to that bridge. The course is just on the other side of the bridge. Hope that helps.

This is a great municipal golf course, whcih has some of the best greens I have ever played on. It has some par 4s which with a good drive you can reach in one. It has some nice views and a good bar for when you have finished. The only problem was finding the golf course, not well sign posted.

A thoroughly enjoyable course that is very underated, the first nine set the long pace gradually easing up into a back nine with no par 5's and a good chance of birdies, great course and day out.

Fairly difficult to find, then it's "Fort Apache" impression. The course though cannot be faulted. A fine course with [at6/4/02] superb greens.

I think this is a very much under-rated course,I played not expecting much but came away pleasantly surprised.
P.S. On a hot day after a round you really do have to try the cider in the club-house to know the meaning of the word relaxing.

Good course with quite a challenging, fairly flat front nine and a picturesque undulating back nine.
Few fairway hazards but plenty of bunkers around greens on most holes. Pro shop and bar could be better but overall worth a visit.
