played here today taking advantage of the £10 bucket of balls and as many rounds as you like offer (which is a bargain deal, even if after the first 9 your aching to hell from the hill walking).its the first time ide ever played here and was pleasently suprised, fairways looked good and greens were in pretty good shape (apart from the 4th hole which was under repair) the wind however was a nightmare, being situated on a hill this course is battered by strong winds which made playing the 3rd hole par 3 an absolute nightmare, nevertheless i will be playing here again without a shadow of a doubt,a quite challenging course for high handicappers like me,but can be enjoyed by all levels of golfer..
By no means is this course well cared for as the previous poster has stated. I played the course today and the green were in a shocking state. Divots on some of the greens, unkept fairways and a sprinkler on the middle of the 2nd hole that made putting impossible. This sprinkler was outrageous! It left the green utterly soaked and you had to time when you putted to coincide with the rotation of the sprinkler to make sure you weren't showered!
Not a good experience at this course
I have been playing on sedgley golf course for 3 years now. Sedgley is a very challenging course and is also very well cared for. Vast improvments to the course, driving range and clubhouse have been made to make your experience even more enjoyable. It is reccommended to everyone even if you play from scratch.
Played this course yesterday (21/03/10) and it was most enjoyable. The owner (Peter) has made vast improvements since i was here last, a few years ago. There is now an excellent driving range facility with lessons available at competitive prices. The clubhouse has been improved with good seating area.
The course itself was in very good condition given the rain we had on Saturday. There were no puddles on the course and the fairways were cut nicely. The sand in the bunkers was soft and the greens were true.
All in all unbeatable value for money and highly recommended. I certainly will be playing here a lot over the summer.
Played on Sedgley course yesterday and even though it rained was still enjoyable. The course is shaping up to be even better as there was signs of futher development in the works.. but even as it is now i enjoyed going around the 9 holes twice. Great course for beginners and advanced alike.
A lot has changed here in the last few months, as it's been brought out by a guy who is not afraid to spend the cash to get it right.
The range is now fully automated with powertees and they are currently installing level target greens along the range area, also they have added to the amount of bays they have.
as for the course, they have changed the layout, the 8th is now the 1st then 9th is now the 2nd, then you play the old 1st and the rest of the course in the old order with old 7th being the new 9th.
they are currently digging plenty of drainage all around the course.
the greens are now much more green like, no need to putt with a wedge like in the past.
the hills are still there but if your feeling a bit knackered then you can now hire golf carts.
give it another 6 months and sedgley will be the premier 9hole track in the local area
Not the best public course i've played, albeit Challenging, be prepared to lose a number of balls. Very hilly - you have been warned!
A fairly good public course (9 holes). Some of the holes are very similar (after the 4th, they all
feel the same). Rough pretty challenging in places. Greens not all in great condition.
