6 reviews of Rookwood Golf Course

One of the best public golf courses in this part of the UK, course has character, it is well laid out and poses a fair yet stern challenge to golfers of all abilities. Location is a bit out of the way if driving down from the Greater London area but it is well worth the visit. Paid £25 on a weekend, great value for the money. Greens are true and fast and the fairways are well maintained. 8 out of 10.

I played Rookwood as part of a society and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. We warmed up on the par 3 course and then after a superb cooked breakfast played the main course.
The recent weather has been very wet indeed and the course was showing signs of being very wet and muddy in places, generally just of the teeing areas. The greens were in good condition considering the time of year and recent heavy rainfall. The fairways, however, were in superb condition, cut to a good playable length and very springy for the time of year!
Definately a course I will return to when the weather has improved.

Nicely presented course with an easy (ish) Par 5 to open your shoulders on. In fact there are some great driving holes all over the course which is not too tight. Front 9 is shorter & a little easier than the back. Greens are good with pace to them even in November! The bunkers, I didn't go in any but they are plenty there and look good with plenty of sand. There is also enough water onsite to keep you interested and not blast about aimlessly.
For a public course it is one of the better ones i have played and great value for money at £22 for the weekend. The bar area is quite small but has 2 large seating areas outside for Summer.
Don't quite know what to make of the 18th a Par Four and 455 yards long! (into the wind when we played it as well.) But all the Par 3's are not overly long, interesting and fair and a pleasure to play. Par 5's can only be reached in 2 by the truely big hitters.
But definitely worth playing, i would be surprised if anyone was disappointed with the course, price or the staff who were excellent.

Have played this course a few times and I must say that for a pay and play public course, this is in excellent condition.
Some of the holes are fantastic and the greens are very good.
A few water holes and tricky approaches make this a good challenge and should be one for your list of places to try.
The greenfees are reasonable and the sandwich hut on the 10th is a very welcome site.
Very enjoyable game.

Played it for the first time yesterday. Despite the rain (lots!), the course was in excellent condition, and the greens were the best I've played on this year.
The front 9 has a number of shorter 300(ish) yd par 4's, but the holes get a little longer and a little tougher on the back.
This is an excellent course in beautiful surroundings, and the only thing missing is somewhere to warm up beforehand. It has a really nice practise green, but if they don't have room for a range then perhaps they need to invest in some nets.
The facilities otherwise are great, and they were very welcoming and helpful in the club shop.
Well worth the trip.

I have played a number of rounds at Rookwood at different times of the year and have always found the course to be in excellent condition. From the tee box to the green everything is as if it was a private club and not a municiple one. The staff are friendly and the prices reasonable. As for the course all the holes are interesting with each having their particular problems and challenges. Water comes into play on 5 holes and the best compliment I can give this course is that long after you have played it you will remember the majority of the holes unlike a number of other bland courses. The one criticism is the speed of play. The marshall needs to be visible and should ensure that slow players are moved on. Yesterday everyone bunched up behind 3 idiots who were out for a sunday morning stroll rather than wanting to play golf and this can mean that rounds take far too long on what is an excellent course
