5 reviews of Pumpherston Golf Club
I can only imagine Andy Stevenson must be on the payroll of a Pumpherston competitor or that he lost the sweep on the day he played it.Having just returned from a Spanish holiday playing San Roque and Valderamma I'd like to think I can judge a golf course. Pumpherston is terrific, has fantastic practice and clubhouse facilities and is in superb condition.
Like another reviewer noted, I'm sure Andy Stevenson's preferred courses would not have so many contenders for signature hole like Pumpherstons 2nd, 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th. All absolutely superb hole with the 2nd just shading it.
He says don't play it ever.....he must be playing some helluva good courses on a regular basis...what a lucky guy.
Pumpherston, is a great course. Maturing very well on the new nine hole's. The only course I have played lots of holes that stay in your mind 2nd,12th,13th,16th and 17th all great holes with very different characteristics. The course is kept to a very high standard with very smooth fast greens. The course does require a clever shot selection due to very well posistioned, doglegs, bunkers and water hazards.
The pro Richard Fyvie is very friendly and happy to help with all you requirements. I played the course with some friends on the 23/06/09 and we all agreed it was like we knew him for years! The club house is very friendly with good food and an even better pint.
I will definatley play this course alot more even with the long drive to the course.
Played June 2006. New holes maturing well. Mixture of young & mature trees 4/5 water hazards about with fair share of fairway/greenside bunkers. Take care on 2nd hole drive. Back 9 more sheltered and established. Greens as good as any in the area. Decent sized practice area and putting green. Friendly Pro and bar staff. meals o.k. and well priced but not a huge choice. Largish & modern clubhouse with good facilities for visitors.
Whilst i am unable to give an unbiased view on Pumpherston Golf Club i would like to mention that in the last three years the course has played host to the Scottish Girls Strokeplay Championship ,the Lothians Matchplay Qualifying, the Scottish Police Championships and the Midlothian County Ladies Midsummer Foursomes. The size of membership has continued to increase as has the number of visiting golf societies many of whom are on their second or third visit.
Why?
This is why:
With striking panoramic views over the Almond Valley, challenging water features on nine holes, fantastic practice facilities and USGA spec greens Pumpherston Golf Club can and does cater for all your golfing needs.
The course is now an 18 hole course with a par 70.
The new nine holes were opened this April.
