For a pay & play course this is one of the better in the area. It offers great value, a few challenging holes but is perhaps more suitable for the higher handicappers and novices. Few narrow holes with just the one par 5 and a couple of longish 4's, caters for all really. On the downside it can get busy and I've sometimes been stuck behind some very slow 4-balls. As mentioned below it could do with more Marshall activity to speed the more laborious players up, but if that's the only gripe then it cant be bad. Well maintained course with friendly staff. The newish driving range adjacent to the 9-hole over the road is a plus too. Beats me when others complain about the amount of novices and lesser players on the course - where else are they going to learn the game for such excellent value ? I play off of 18 and have played here on and off for many a year, and will continue to do so. The clubhouse gives good views down the 18th with a couple of outside balcony areas, food is standard golf course grub and OK. Pro-shop is well stocked and you can sometimes grab a bargain. All in all, excellent value for money and well worth a visit

Although I don't think about myself as a golfer I would highly recommend Poult Wood for a meal, a game of squash or prehaps just to try out golf it is excellent value for money

Beautiful setting and well maintained course with the Tees and Greens both in excellent condition. Very welcoming atmosphere and the bar/ restaurant area overlooking the 1st tee and 18th green makes for a pleasent end to an enjoyable round.

Played Poult Wood for the first time for at least six years yesterday. Good value for money it is, with a nice clubhouse. As expected it was busy, which is no problem, however the course needs wardens to go around hurrying players up. Got stuck behind a fourball for most of the round.

I have played this course many times. Cheap and cheerful is what you would call this place. It is a play and pay course and as expected suffers a little from high handicappers who don’t repair the course as they go round. It is a tough job for the groundkeepers, I would think. It is also very busy and you find that there are many hold ups on tees as so many beginners to the game play it. That is not to say its not enjoyable. I play of a 17 handicap and have shot this course in 2 over. It is not a tough challenge and the only par 5 is easily reachable in 2, even for the shortest hitters, of which I am one. My point was proved with an eagle at the par 5 last week. It does cheer you up to hit such a low score but there are a few tough holes – 6th, 9th and 18th. There is also a 9 hole course which is again great for newcommers to the game. Value for money it is…but play it regularly and you’ll soon tire of the fact that there just aren’t any challenges. There are no hills to speak of either and no water hazards anywhere, unless you are 200 yards off the fairway.

Im only 13 years old and i play poult wood usually twice a week. I have broke 100 several times and broke 90 twice. This course is very good for getting your confidence up and i always look forward to playing there. P.S Dont let the 18th hole spoil your round play for par or bogie.

The course is alright but the conditioning is average and the holes are very boring. It is undoubtable cheap but you get what you play for. The course is not long and for a good golfer the challenge is limited. On the positive side the course is good for beginners and high handicappers and it is good to have a 18 hole pay as you play. The holes are quite attractive in places and the pace of play is not to slow.

It is with fear I right this review ..... fear the course will become so popular that I will find it hard to get a teeing off time in the future. I cannot believe this is a public course. It is excellently maintained, the fairways and greens are in top condition and I cannot praise the green and clubhouse staff more. The green staff do an excellent job and can be witnessed considerately maintaining the course at any time of day. There are also staff patrolling the course chatting to players ensuring there are no problems. The course design is parkland, and how pretty it is. Though not the longest or most challenging course around, it is fantastic value for money. Stopping at the clubhouse for a snack or full meal afterwards is an enjoyable experience; with comfortable surroundings, friendly staff and good quality value for money food. A good standard of dress code and player etiquette is required here and I am pleased to say that most players do repair their pitchmarks on the greens. Another plus is that I have not seen a bunker which does not have a rake. I personally like that there are no buggies for hire at Poult Wood; which means no motorised hooligans on the course. There is also a short 9 hole course which is far too good to be casually referred to as ‘pitch & putt’. It is also maintained to a very high standard. What more can I say, apart from I have played much inferior courses which charge twice as much. This course is worth travelling a reasonable distance to play and I suggest you book a few days in advance to get your required teeing off time.

this is a great course, and cheap to, yes it can get busy at times, but im not complaining, its not hard to play through, is a shortish course though, and the person that lost 43 golf balls shoud take up a different sport!!

Played course for the first time during the week past. Very enjoyable and well worth money. Very busy (tookk 4 1/2 hours for my fourball to get round). Looking forward to returning.

A spectacular courese. The greens were are always in agreat condition and the whole set out of the course in fantastic. A great variation of wooded parkland and open, spacious golf. The most fun i've ever had playing golf and the best course i've ever played. 10/10. P.S. The short nine hole course is a great way to warm up, its like the 18 hole course in miniture. Both courses are kept to the same amazing standard.

I thought that this course was in excellent nick. Plays a lot longer during the winter. Brilliant 18th hole. I thrashed Ru. Very good value for a public course. Definately worth a visit

This is a very good value course, perfect for people who want a cheap round of golf. The fairways are wide and forgiving - despite playing very badly i went round in only +1 (nett score). Basically a good course for medium to high handicappers.
