Played in June as part of our annual trip for the first time. If you like proper MacKenzie greens, you'll love this course! Unusually opens up with 2 par 5 holes, followed by a tough par 3 which is rightly SI2. Not overly long, I'd say if you knew where you were going there are 3 or 4 driveable par 4 holes - 9, 10 and 11 offer good opportunities to the big hitters. Greens were in good condition, tee beds and fairways fine, bunkers had very little sand in them. The semi rough and rough was horrendous, maybe to help protect a relatively short track. Signature holes? Not sure, I'd say 3 or 12, though many in our group thought it was the SI 1 13th. I personally thought that was just a tough hole, as opposed to a good signature hole. Worth a visit, warm welcome and a decent day's golf.

Pitreavie was the first venue on our annual MAGI golf tour to Scotland from Matlock GC, now in our seventh year. As the ex-pat Scottish organiser I always worry that my selection - based on golfing memories 25+ years old - may prove faulty. However Pitreavie did not let me down. The course is a little more hemmed in by housing than I remember it, but there are still some great views from the high parts of it. It was in top condition and the holes are varied. As with other MacKenzie courses, greens undulate and burns await the unwary. Our only complaint would be that, with so many blind tee shots, a map on the scorcard would help and so would notices on the tee to warn visitors to await the bell. The welcome from both staff and members was warm and friendly. The wind made this a tough start to the Tour - 36 points was our best score. At £25.50 a round, Pitreavie is good value.
