I played the course two weeks ago (8th October 06) and thought that the course was in excellent condition including the greens, the staff and members are all friendly. The course offers every standard of golfer a challenging round, and because the course is ontop of a hill, there is a blowing wind which at times makes the ball swerve to the right. However a excelent course which should be played.

Played here on 02/10/05 A very friendly course - all staff from pro shop onwards very helpful, and members on the course very friendly as well. Routes to the greens are challenging, and there is a good variety of holes as well, long, short, bendy, requiring a thoughtful approach to your round. One of the nicest days on a golf course I've ever had.

I played this course recently August 2004 and found it to be in excellent condition, a very enjoyable round of golf and a very welcoming club shop and facilities. The course offers more room for error off the tee than many, but that does not discount the challenge from 2nd shot to the hole, no more so than the 9th that requires a rare degree of precision on approach. As a relatively new course Naunton is well planned and easy to navigate, no desperately challenging long holes, but plenty of variety in shots required to provide an interesting days golf.

AN INTERESTING AND ENJOYABLE NEW COURSE TO PLAY. IT IS EASY TO GET LURED INTO A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY OFF THE TEE WITH ITS WIDE EXPANSIVE FAIRWAYS. THE MAIN FEATURE OF THE COURSE ARE ITS SMALL GREENS, PROTECTED BY HUMPS, BUNKERS AND STEEP SLOPES THAT CAN EASILY WRECK A CARD. PATIENCE AND AN EXCELLENT SHORT GAME ARE NEEDED FOR A GOOD SCORE. ON SEVERAL HOLES IT APPEARS THAT THE FLAG IS CLOSER THAN IT ACTUALLY IS, I FOUND MYSELF COMING UP SHORT TIME AND TIME AGAIN. UNFORTUNATELY A COURSE PLANNER WAS NOT AVAILABLE, WHICH I WOULD SUGGEST COULD SHAVE A COUPLE OF SHOTS OFF A NEW VISITORS SCORE. HOLDING THE SMALL FIRM GREENS WAS A REAL PROBLEM, DESPITE PLAYING IN HEAVY RAIN, WHENCE THE NEED FOR A GOOD SHORT GAME. THE GREENS WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND PUTTED TRUE. HOLES TO NOTE ARE THE PAR 3 6TH, THE PAR 4 9TH & THE PAR 4 15TH. THE APPROACH SHOT TO THE PAR 4 9TH IS FRIGHTENING, BELIEVE ME THERE IS VERY LITTLE ROOM FOR ERROR!!! THE PAR 4 15TH IS AN INTERESTING HOLE THAT CAN BE DRIVEN BY CUTTING OFF THE DOGLEG. FOR FIRST TIME VISITOR, WITHOUT LOCAL KNOWLEDGE, THE PRUDENT PLAY IS TO PLAY THE HOLE AS A TRUE DOGLEG AND AIM FOR THE MARKER POST. THE COURSE WOULD BENEFIT FROM A STRONG PAR 5 AS THEY ARE ALL A BIT BLAND. HOWEVER THE COURSE OVERALL PRESENTS A FAIR AND ENJOYABLE CHALLENGE. WORTH A VISIT IF YOU ARE IN THE COTSWOLD AREA. I ALSO RECEIVED A WARM AND FRIENDLY WELCOME FROM THE PRO.

as a new course have found the condition to be geneally excellent, also think it as alot more difficult than authors comments. agree the holes 8.9.12.and 18 but also think 7 and 10 can be considered as they follow the contours of the valley and the position of the drive can be paramount. The 3 hole although short can be vert tricky when the fairways become firm.

I have played this course on several occasions and it will certainly put some colour in your cheeks! Wind is evident on most days and requires a strong imagination and shot shaping. Generally in good condition, it's not a hard course and scoring is up for grabs. However complacency will be punished. A couple of poor holes namely the second with an upturned saucer green which is a bit silly and the 17th which is a par 3.5 and a bit bland. There are also a number of blind shots which for the visitor is frustrating. Best holes are the 8th, 9th 12thand 18th. Greens are generally small and in pretty good shape. There is no definition between the nines and all tee times are from the 1st only. No halfway hut although the 12th green is near the clubhouse. Friendly pro shop and members. Bring a jumper!
