5 reviews of Matlock Golf Club

Played here on Sunday 1st July and to say the weather we'd had the previous week the course was in great condition, the welcome was very friendly and reading one of the previous comments about being featureless, they must have been walking round with their eyes shut! It's lovely with a great mix of holes, and the greens were in good nick too. Well worth a visit if your nearby.

Played in an AM AM at Matlock GC on Sunday 17th July and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. Just looking at the card does not do it justice as the course played significantly longer than the card suggests. The layout is interesting albeit with some quirks but the condition was excellent in particular the greens (fast and true). The food in the clubhouse was decent quality at a fair price and we were made to feel extremely welcome.

I'll declare my interest at the start, in that I have been a member of Matlock GC for 15 years. I can't recognise its description by one reviewer as "featureless". It has some of the most spectacular views in Debyshire - across the Derwent valley towards the ruins of Riber Castle on the hilltop. Every hole is different - many of them incorporating Bentley Brook that winds its way through the course. Criticisms of the welcome and course conditions in the past, sadly, may have some justification. I'll admit that the course has suffered from some indifferent greenkeeping in the past, but I think the latest reviewer's comments are more representative of its current condition. The welcome you'll get from our new young professional, Christian, is a lot warmer than previously. You'll also find Mick Wain our recently appointed secretary very accommodating. I'm an ex-pat Scot and can understand that Derbyshire folk can seem a little reticent intitially, but you'll find the members friendly enough provided you're not holding the whole course up.

Really enjoyed playing this course. Loved the layout. The greens were in quality condition. However the fairways were a little longer than im used to. Would happily play there again.
