A real moorland type course with guaranteed wind, guaranteed emptiness, (We were the only ones on the course on the day we visted) and guaranteed quirkiness - The 3rd is a superb par 3 played down to a bowl shaped green. The 5th and 6th are a couple of weird but lovely par 4's - All in all a super fun course and great value. Well worth popping off the M74.
A real gem.Short but interesting, every hole has its own challenge. I have played it a few times and you often have the course to yourself but the members have been very friendly. Very scenic and all in all a special course and only a fiver for the day!
We visited this course one Tuesday Evening when the weather had not been too good and cloud cover was particularly good. My son and I found found this a most challenging course considering the conditions but were well impressed with the layout; the first two holes set you up for what is next to come. The view from ther eight tee we will never forget; road well below and clouds/ mist on near horizon. We had the whole course to ourselves so took our time and involved a friend who had never played before. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, getting wet and tired (quite demanding on your legs for such a small course) and will no doubt want to play this course again when travelling through the area.
I was a member of this course for many years, from 1963 to 1975. This is a course you will never forget, if you can put a score together round here then all other courses are a dawdle. It has produced some great players in the past names that come to mind Jim Fraser, Drew Sommerville, Bob Mitchell, The Cameron's I could go on for hours. Give it a try you will not regret it.
P.S.
Take plenty balls!!
This is a fun course to play, small rough greens making putting difficult, but nothing can detract from the fact that its just good fun. The 7th is a real terror hole, miss the ridge with you tee shot and you will end up about 60 feet below the green with an almost vertical climb back up.
We play this course on a fine Satuirday afternoon and were the only group on it. If you are returning south down the A74 and have the clubs in the car stop here spend your fiver and have three hours of fun. The village hotel is really welcoming and provides excellent food.
