5 reviews of Kirkby (Liverpool Municipal) Golf Course
play this course most weekends and getting better all the time, staff working really hard to keep greens running smooth only down side club house not that good. staff our very friendley
Not a massivley challenging course, but easy walking and tidy. Decent putting surfaces, although a bit slow. Good quality bunkers (with rakes) good sign for public facility. Has three v challenging holes (4th 445 with OOB entirity of right side and sloping green to OOB) 9th 425 with River Alt OOB down right side and 18th with OOB all up the left side and well guarded green on left. Not punishing off most tee shots, but small greens. Off white tees, very do -able but long hitting is a huge advantage here as most trouble will catch shorter hitters. Not much rough either, good place to get low handicap if you need to get yours down a bit. ADvantage of playing club comp Fri/Sat/SUn - an ideal 2nd course for aspiraing player to get handicap chop. V good value especially Mid week .
First time I've played at this municipal course, really good value. Greens and fairways are well looked after, some parts look at bit tatty but overall the course and round were great, well worth a visit, will be back
£12 for a Saturday morning tee time is excellent value, so any negatives have to be off-set against the very cheap green fee.
Those few negatives are that the teeing areas could be better maintained, some of the greens are a bit patchy and played on the slow side and the yardages were out on a few holes - for instance the par 3 17th doesn't play as long as it reads on the card.
On the positive side, improvements have been made to the short par 4 3rd and 8th holes to make them more of a challenge and the bunkers seem to have been improved and are now full of nice, white sand making them a fairer test to get out of. On the whole the course was in pretty good condition and despite it being busy, the pace of play wasn't too bad once we got to about the 5th.
Not much of a club shop but like I said, any downsides can be overlooked when you're only paying £12. Definitely worth a visit.
Fairways and greens in very good condition, the bunkers let things down the sand in them is very poor and there are no rakes available.
The club house was closed so was not able to get post game refreshments.
