Just played Kings Hill in a society outing on a wonderful bright warm wednesday morning. Unfortunately any enjoyment of the day ended with the weather.
Kings Hill is by far one of the worst looked after golf courses i have ever played. A good layout is spoiled by atrocious fairways with no grass and weeds in abundance. I have never played on a course with fairways so dry and bouncy. I did however belt out a 385 yard drive which i am sure i could only replicate on the fast lane of the nearby M20 motorway.
The greens were lovely and slopy with great putts to be had but bad fringes and lots of pitch marks spoiled them.
The bunkers were well placed and plentiful but don't look for any consistency of sand depth.
What a pity that a good layout in a nice area is completely spoiled by either poor greenkeeping or lack of money for water. I don't know either the owners or the greenkeeping staff but it looks to me that such negligence can only be deliberate.
My next game, which may be a while after my wrists recover from constanly playing off rock solid lies, will certainly not be at Kings Hill Golf Club
Just played Kings hill for the first time in over a year - i was shocked by the condition! absolutely run down - barely a blade of grass on the fairways, greens like they were frozen - you had to hit 30 yards short and let the ball bounce on! SHOCKING Rude staff, actually they all seemed like any morale was at an all time low - how the members put up with this is beyond me. I will not play here this unwelcoming club again. Shame used to be a good course, i suppose they are running it down to build more houses.
Good course in good condition
played in society, no reception, average food bar shut at 8.30
asked to play in 3 balls to improve pace of play but no reduction on single occupancy buggy?
found it difficult to present prizes whilst in same area as inconsiderate members !
A V Good facilty which would benifit from a good steward
A good course which you have to think your way around. You really need to visit more than once (this time scored 38 points off 12 :->) to challenge your handicap.
After the first two holes I did not user the driver again until the 9th. The course was in good condition on a day where there was little wind, following nearly a months worth of rain the day before, the course drained well. The greens were a good pace with a few sneeky pin postions, with fairways equally as good. Not sure about some of the stroke indexes - how does the 18th only merit an SI of 6.
The clubhouse and pro shop were friendly and when we arrived early let our 2 ball start before a 4 ball.
We paid £30 each (down from adverstised £35) which is quite steep compared with places like Dale Hill and Hever (both on 2-4-1's) which will probably stop me being a regular visitor.
btw don't use Tomtom POI to get you there, it leads you to a dead end.
An exceptionally good course. The opening hole is reasonably straighforward, but after that things get tough. You can expect to shoot at least 6 over your usual score. The greens are exceptionally good - very contoured and true. Fairways and extensive bunkers are immaculate. The course is an inland links with parkland elements. Wind is often a factor. The 10th is a particularly good hole - a par 5 that should be played as a 5 even by long hitters. This course will expose a deficiencies in your game, but it is a fair and enjoyable test. 10 out of 10. I predict big things for this course in the future.
