Hillingdon bucks the modern trend in golf course design that seems to insist that a course can be a challenge only if it is over 7,000 yards long. At a mere 5,400 yards Hillingdon is not long but it will provide a test for anyone. Played it for the first time last week with 7 friends with handicaps ranging from 11 to 18. The best return over the 9 holes we played was 4 over par net. The worst 11 over! This is a course where you have to think as placement (rather than power) off the tee is critical. And the greens, though very true, are small, firm, fast and undulating. This makes hitting them, holding them and putting them a real challenge. I recommend this course to anyone looking for a different challenge. I will be back, but my driver will be staying firmly locked in the boot of the car!

6 h'cap reporting. Super Parkland Course. Has many old Oaks and a river. The green keepers sculpt the fairways and semi rough very well. A brave heart and good accuracy from the tees is required. (Big hitters can either benefit dramatically or lose their handicap allowance very quickly). Definately a thinking man's/woman's course. Highlights of holes 1st. Brave tee shot required to make a comfortable 6/7 iron into the heart of the green. 2nd. At least 140 yard carry to get over 60-80ft Oaks. 3rd. Long and straight required to stand a chance of a birdie. 4th. Accurate placementmment of the tee shot is required here. (150-170 yard will set you up for a a par if your second is a good one over a thin tree lined ditch) 5th. Par 3. Be brave! Don't leave it short else you need a deft touch! 6th. Par 3. 180 yard 6 iron will sort this one! Don't hook else a river awaits you. Don't over hit as stream awaits you in the out Out Of Bounds. 7th. Driver and a w/9/8/7 will get you the distance! The green is a real test of nerve! If the pin is on the high side of the green make sure you have an uphill putt. 8th. Off the tee on the right a copse awaits 190-220 up. Keep it straight and it'll bare rewards. Don't over hit the second shot. 9th. Drive through the second ditch and you've covered best part of 260 yards. It impresses the members if you can do it but as the fairway narrows hit it 220 and you keep the green open from most angles. With over a hundred years history and some of the best greens in the county, for most of the Summer, the course is a good prospect in the late Spring/Summer months. (The course plays longer than the card indicates in the winter months). Take care not to gamble too much with the members! They have respect for the course and know where to play the ball! There are many single figure handicap Golfers in this club and it has a great reputation for producing county standard players.
