been playing this course now for about 4 years and every year it improves. The greens are in excellent condition all year round, the fairways are well maintained and drain well with bad weather. all in all its well worth the £18 green fee at the weekend.

I played here last week after alot of snow in the area. The course was in fantastic condition and very dry for the time of year, there were people using buggys when most places will not even allow trolleys. I was very surprised at the quality of the greens for the time of year, they were excellent and I would challenge anyone to find better ones to play on in January. The course it's self is very varied with no two holes the same. The fairways are nice and wide and there are well placed bunkers and water hazards, for a decent golfer it's a great challenge. Overall it was excellent value for money at £17 on the weekend and I picked up a 2 for 1 voucher in the bar after my round for my next visit.

A great course this. Very challenging with tight fairways, superb greens and well maintained fairways and tees. They have nearly finished the building work now so all 18 holes play properly but they is still some GUR between two fairways. Best greens I've player on by a mile and will definitely be back.

I play Hart common pretty regulary and have to say it is a fantastic course. Yes there is still some work going on to finish the last 2 holes but they are very nearly finished and it takes a pretty wayward drive to be near them. The greens really are the best I have played on anywhere this year. I think the last review of this course was a bit harsh to say the least.

Midweek round - £12. Bit of a mixed, but ultimately disappointing, experience. THE GOOD - The first 13 holes are superb. Rolling links-like terrain, high quality fairways and bunkers, and the greens are stunning. THE BAD - Hole 14 is basically a building site. The card says 410yds yet you have to walk nearly 200yds down the fairway (tipper trucks passing you) to find the MAT on which to tee off from. No signposting about this so we ended up asking other players what the hell was going on. 15 isn't much better. 16 & 17 are just temporary, tiny par 4s and then you end on 18 which should be a par 5 but isn't. Nowhere on their website, when you phone.. or when you pay, is it mentioned that the last 4 holes are still under construction. Also.. the combination of non-existant signage (not even the tee's have signs to tell you what hole you are on) plus the poor excuse for a scorecard, means you spend half your round lost and trying to find the next tee. No benches, no litterbins, no nothing. The "pro shop" is a damp old farm barn hidden on the other side of the carpark to the "clubhouse" and there didn't appear to be any changing rooms or even toilets. A few comments below compare this with local muni's. Yes.. the first 13 holes are far superior in quality, but Hart Common still has a lot to learn about facilities.

Played the course several times over the last three years, it just gets better and better, and by far the stand out quality feature are the greens, everyone in tip top condition, and challenging at that. I have played in the middle of winter and the height of summer and the greens are always fantastic. A bit of money spent on direction signage, bins, benches and tees, and this course could really be something special.

This course is in fantastic order at the minute, spoke to the green keeper yesterday and watched him measure the greens at over 11 on the stimpmeter.

played today for £25 (adult & junior sunday afternoon ticket) great value for money. the greens even for mid november were in superb condition even though the rest of the course was more than a little boggy in places due to the recent wet weather. the course itself was too long but played longer than it normally would due to the wet ground. a decent test of golf with good off course facilities. very few if any straight long boring holes which resulted in a good test of golf i just about managed to play to my 24 handicap . will return next spring when the ground is drier.

I play here at least once a week and am very impressed with Hart common. The greens are still putting very well and the course overall is in excellant condition. Anyone who hasn't played here since the rebuilding work was started is really missing out. It's £15 on sunday afternoons when I play. Compare that with what the local munis are charging (which aren't even in the same league as this place) and I think it's an absolute bargain.

played today 21/08/09 paid £12 which is respectable, course was in fantsatic condition and these greens are possibly the most trickiest i have ever played on 100% focus at all times is required! yes there is some work being done around the course (mainly around the 15th 16th and 17th) but the course is fully open and impressive. the course has come on lots over the last 2 years and i dare say that the 'spare' 5 holes that are being built will be done soon. overall id say its well worth the money if you can just block out the work being done close by to the 3 holes i have earier mentioned. well done hart common and keep up the hard work that you have been putting in

I have played many a coarse, and for the money (£15.00 at weekend) these are the best greens i have had the pleasure to hit. The coarse itself is varied and testing, with no 2 holes the same. Well worth a visit.

A great little course. Nearly complete when I brought our society on Sat 11th July 2009. Big improvement on the last time we played. Greens were superb. Great value for £15. Well done to all concerned.

I play Hart Common quite regluarly now as the work is nearing completion. There are 18 full holes now open. The opening hole is no longer on the par 3 course but a massive 450 yard par 4. There is still a bit of work going on, but 17 of the greens now are brand new, just one is still an original green (still very good though). The new green to replace this has been finished but is not yet ready for opening. The greens are all large and true, the tee's are large and flat, the bunkers are big, but not to nastily placed. The rolling fairways are nicely mown and the rough is just about right. I pay £12 a round during the week and for a course of this standard it's an absolute bargain.

I've not played Hart Common for 18 months, deciding to wait for the massive redevelopment work to finish because it was a bit of a building site last time I visited. First impressions were poor as the 'pro shop' hasn't changed and is still very limited. Also, the first hole, a fill-in 70yd pitch and putt pinched from the fun Par-3 Acedemy Course, caused bunching of groups straight away. However, once the round got going, we found the lovely big greens in immaculate condition, with well placed, large sandy bunkers guarding most of them. The tee beds were OK and the generous fairways were in pretty decent nick. Unfortunately, the course is still a work in progress with 17 full holes (2 or 3 more being developed), so there are no yardage markers or course guides. It's often not at all obvious where you're heading from the tee and between holes unless you're following someone. However, keep your eyes open, avoid the light rough which hides your ball pretty effectively, and you'll be fine. It's still pretty obvious that there's a lot of work still to do but they've come a very long way and there's no doubt that it will be a terrific place to play when it's complete. In the meantime, it will prove a challenge to all golfers, and I will be back when the "Course Complete" signs are posted. The clubhouse looked good but we didn't visit. I paid £15 at a weekend and I've rated the value for money relatively low because you can get some cracking deals locally at top-notch courses for much the same fee. However, when it's complete, get ready to pay £30 for a round here - it should be that good.

ive played hart common or the last 2 years and found it to be a great value, challenging course.18 holes are available to play, however, one hole ( the 1st ) is a temporary hole while the real hole is being built. this course has undergone some major re-development over the past few years and the results are amazing. some of the holes have been raised about 20ft and as a result, the drainage is superb. the greens are some of the best ive ever played on. its like putting on a smooth carpet, but dont let me give you the impression that the greens are easy.just when you think youve done all the hard work on the fairways and made it to the green, thats when the fun really starts.even the 1st hole has a small but, very well maintained green its not the most picturesque course at the moment, but as i have said, its still under re-development,but if you want to play a challenging course, with excellent greens, hart common is definitely worth a look.

Great value for money, most of the holes have immaculate greens end the fairways are in good condition. Can`t wait for the whole course to be finished. I can`s see the price staying at £12 per round on a saturday though.

I play this course twice a week every week of the year, yes it is open in winter using the normal greens. this is a challenging course for all classes of player, with some very long par 4's and very difficult par 3's. At present there is a lot of course rebuilding work, which is ongoing,(this is reflected in the low cost of green fees), and means that you have to accept some long walks between greens and tees. The 7th and 8th are very temporary greens (winter type on the fairway, the distance and par have been cut to reflect this)and you can see the new greens are coming on well. If you don't want to walk the course it is possible to hire a buggy at very reasonable rates. When the re-building and designing is complete the course will be to PGA/USPGA standard, and I don't think we will have long to wait for this. The Staff (mostly family) are very helpful and friendly and meals served in the club house are made to order and always fresh. I have seen a few of adverse comments about the course, which are not quite justified, but any person turning up to play are told of the situation on the course and if you get lost, there are plenty of players/members who know the course who will gladly put you on the right track. in a couple of years this will be one of the must play courses in the region.

I am a member a Hart commom, when I first started playing I was a 30 handicapper (jnr) I now have a handicap of 18 a year later so the course isn't very challenging as you can blast a driver down the fairway and end up with a short iron in on most of the holes, however the 8th, 9th and 10th are difficult. The 6th and 7th holes are pathetic as they have just put the pin in the middle of the fairway due green improvements. However their are going to be three new holes brought into play in the near future. Overall I only pay £120 for a jounior membership.

I have been plying this course every monday eve for the past 10 weeks and it has got better every week! But the members have now insisted it goes back 18 holes which is all well and good but the 7th and 8th greens are bad as they are new greens made in an instant! give this course time and it will become a great course Thanks Geoff Peacock

Despite a number of reports that this course is currently in awfull condition I have enjoyed an occasional round there for about the last 3 years. Yes, there is work going on at the moment. Yes, some areas look like a building site. Yes, the layout changes and sometimes involves a walk between holes. However, when all is said and done I don't play golf for 5-star treatment, I play because I like it and I found this course to be in decent condition considering the green fees and providing you make some allowances for the ongoing improvements. With reference to the improvements some of the new holes were open when I played and I must say that they look and play great. I for one will definitely return when work is complete and probably before.

I must echo previous comments about the current redevelopment and the damage it's doing to the quality of the course. This has been going on for ages and really does need to be finished soon, before the old part of the course degenerates any further. The 6 new holes are a treat, and gives you a glimpse of things to come, but the remaining holes have been left to wither, the greens and tee boxes no better than a poorly run pitch & putt. The poorly indicated hikes between green and tee make it very hard work to get any rhythm going. It's a real shame to see such a good course in this condition, but I'll not return until the course is finished. Good luck in the menatime, but I recommend Haigh Hall, Standish, Duxbury and Regent Park as similarly-priced but better quality local altenatives.

To say i was dissapointed with this course is an understatement. Starting with the clubhouse. Food is OK, facilities very basic, atmosphere akin to a motorway service station cafe. The course is little better. in fact, the course is much worse. The teeing areas are pathetically maintained, and the greens are even worse. There is vety little grass on most of the greens, drainage on them is almost non existant and lining up putts is utterly pointless. The course appears to meander through an industrial tipping area. There are mounds of bricks, rubble and tarmac everywhere. Couse logistics are laughable. The distance between some holes is almost par 5 length and you find yourself walking back up fairways which are in play. There is little definition betwen rough, fairway and green (except you can see the greens becuse they are brown). teeing areas are littered with rubbish and it generally looks like the course is maintained by a herd of goats. there was not a single rake in any bunker. I understand the course is being 'redeveloped' although I can't see how, when all the rubble is covered and grassed, this will make th course any better. I think it is an utter discgrce that the course charges people full price, and never advises anyone at the time of booking of the condition of the course. i would not play this course again if it was free, and if I never played it again, it would be too soon. An utter discgrace.
