Two years on and no-one else has reviewed this course? I've just gone back to Girton - having forgotten that I'd played there already - and do you know what reminded me? The lovely people there! Some of the tees are still hard to find, but the members will gladly walk with you to your next tee - the ground-staff will get off their mowers to help you look for an unfortunate ricochet from one of the many tees - the club shop will advise you to tee off in half an hour when it's cheaper. It's almost like Stepford Wives! The greens weren't great unfortunately, and it really misses a picture hole, this is probably why I'd forgotten I'd played there. There are a number of ditches crossing the fairways which cause you consider not reaching for the driver and there are a couple of blind greens which would make a stroke saver useful. It's a good day out but not one that will stick in your mind for years to come. It's worth going just to meet the people though, the golf will be a bonus. We were only charged £16 each for some reason - that's great value.

I have just played this course today and feel compelled to say that the members at this club are the nicest golfers I've ever met - all of them! The seniors helped point out the obscure tee positions and waved us to our errant tee shots. Not one person passed us without saying hello and wishing us well. This may sound commonplace, but the general demenour of these people was quite exceptional. Thank you to them all. Quite apart from that, the course was in excellent condition, the greens are interesting (some very small ones here) and the par 5 18th has an undulating fairway which is like being at sea! The fee of £22 is a bargain.

We visited Girton early one Wednesday morning recently and got the impression they were NOT used to having visitors. Notwithstanding that, they were very welcoming and I have to say that the course is as well maintained as any of the big-name courses I have played, an absolute credit to the greenkeepers. The course itself is of average length and not particularly difficult, with a very gentle opening par 4 of 281 yards to get you into your rhythm. Recommended.
