4 reviews of Flixton Golf Club
I think Flixton boy is some what a little bitter here...sounds to me like a disgruntled ex member? I've personally played Flixton quite a few times. I don't think you'll find a tougher course than Flixton for it's size and price. Ive played loads of local courses over the years and Flixton stands out on it's own. Davyhulme up the road is also a good course but they are two different kind of courses. I also believe Flixton holds the Manchester and District Golf Alliance Matchplay Finals once a year? It that true? So let's be honest and keep local great courses like Flixton supported and not put them down because it sounds like you've had a disagreement with the powers above. Looking forward to playing at Flixton this year in the Cheshire League, great set of chaps, great food and above all.... a great course.
I know this Course and Club well. At 6500 yards it is one of the longest 9 hole courses in the country and considered by many to be an excellent test of golf.
It is a riverside course on land with superb drainage and as a consequence it is in full playing condition throughout the whole year.
In fact it is thought so highly of, in terms of its playing condition and as a challenge, that every April the Manchester and District Golf Alliance choose Flixton Golf Club to play their PROFESSIONAL Matchplay Finals.
You will find it a warm, friendly and welcoming Club and much more informal than many in the area.
Boring, boring, boring. The course itself is not spectacular with not a single stand out hole. the greens admittedly are in excellent condition, the fairways however are not.
The fact it is a nine hole course is another bugbear as it gets very congested. If you work 9 to 5, you can forget about winter as all the comps on saturdays are groups and very cliquey and every other sunday is winter league, when you will be lucky to tee off before 12 which is then coincidentally ladies preferred tee.
Another gripe of mine is the fact it is touted as all year round and yet I am sat at home rather than playing because it is closed again in february.
As a visitor and as a member there are far better courses, which offer better value for money and I for one will not be renewing my membership.
A good friendly atomosphere at Flixton with an excellent challenging course, superp greens and good facilities.
