10 reviews of Flaxby Park Golf and Country Club

This is on of the most challenging and testing golf courses you will ever play on . Played on the 1st of July with my son and it was a great test . You really get the feeling that you are playing abroad . The course is littered with unique styled bunkers that you will struggle to get up and down out of . The course just short of 7000 yards off the back tees , not to mention the greens , they are super slick and very undulating it would be a great achievement to be able to make a two putt on some greens . Also beware of the wicked rough and tress it makes the course super tight , some fair ways are only 15 yards in width, if you go into them you are better off hitting another one and declaring it lost . To top it off it has lots of water that can easily catch you out . Don't judge the photos on the website because the course has really matured much to my surprise . Although the club house is temporary it has a great atmosphere and amazing food , the proportions are over genorous and the staff are extremely friendly , they will no doubt get you a great deal for the golf and food , well worth a vist and well worth many more . 5 Star ***

36 golfers played all 27 holes late june 2011, and were rewarded with an excellent, challenging golf course, and were looked after very professionally by the staff. we would highly recommend to anyone thinking of playing here, play here, but fetch your A GAME !! A great test of golf, with slick greens. They even have a daily stimpometer reading !! It was 10.3 when we played it !!

Played Flaxby on Saturday 12 June 2010 as a group of 12 golfers of mixed ability. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the course, greens were in great condition. Some fairly tight holes, but rewarded for a decent drive. We played 18 holes in the morning and in the afternoon, although we played nine on the Temple course. The greens on the temple course were fantastic. The clubhouse was a number of portacabins joined together, but don't let that put you off. The clubhouse staff were very friendly and helpful.

Played on a windy Saturday afternoon (4/10/08)and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge presented by this new course. There is enough variety in the course to keep good and intermediate players happy. The first hole is a strong start with a good drive rewarded with a little wedge to a green flanked by big oak trees, the quality keeps on coming after that. On course info could be better with a few surprises being better marked (hole map at tee? / ditch on the ninth) I will be returning soon!! On a down side the professional was a little awkward, this round was booked a week in advance and he was told we would use a green free voucher to which he agreed. on the day however we were told that they did not accept green free vouchers on a Saturday. Luckily he accepted the mistake was his and let us play for only £23 each. Also the clubhouse is not yet complete - in fact it's a portacabin (albeit a large one)!!

I played Flaxby on the 9th of June with a friend that is a member there. The course was generaly good with true fast greens. My only negative comments are that the rough is too punishing for an average golfer. If you missed any fairway on the course your ball was lost in the 2 foot rough. I can see what the owners are trying to develop but the constant ball searching leads to long slow rounds. I was also a little disappointed with the siting of many fairway bunkers which appear to be positioned to catch almost any straight drive. I will play the course again to review my opinions but at the moment i think the owners may need to take heed of many of the members comments and make the course a little fairer.

I played this course on January 6th. The staff were very welcoming & helpful - I managed to turn up unannounced on a Saturday and join a members 3-ball within 20 minutes of turning up. The course was in excellent condition for the time of year, the main greens & tees were in play on every hole. It's an interesting & challenging course to play - the water has been used to good effect on several holes, giving you a choice of playing safe off the tee or trying to carry water to leave an easier second shot. All in all, a really good course and very friendly & helpful locals.

Not being a golfer myself, I'll not comment on the course but my son has just become a member and if there is a more friendly, welcoming or helpful club in the area ....i,d like to know about it !!!!!!

New courses are normally a thoughtless blast of the tee, followed by a pitch into an equally uninteresting green. As said above, well positioned bunkers and water give the course interest before the tree's mature. If they can continue the investment it could become a top course. We took a society of +35 and most seemed to agree, that it was a good course with a superb dinner afterwards.

The set up here is extremely good even though the club house is temporary. The welcome is very friendly and the catering first class. The driving range is one of the best I have come across, with plenty of targets and options (left hand players catered for). The course is excellent, course guide essential, (my own play did not do it justice, only two pars), it is well worth a visit and I will definitely play here again in the near future. Well worth the time and money. As per the previous comments it is a bit exposed and can become a bit tricky when the wind gets up from the wrong direction, like it did on my visit. This course will be a very different proposition in a few years time when the plantations start to really come of age.

This a brand new course (opened July 2004). Whilst there are expected immature aspects such as new trees (thus the course is quite exposed), the design of the course - with it's undulations, challenging water holes, white soft sand bunkering and thought provoking decisions off every tee this is a budding championship course. The clubhouse proper has yet to be built but perfectly decent accomodation is in place
