Ellesborough Golf Club

Undulating fairways offering fantastic views is a good challenge for most club golfer. Played in summer had good greens.
Would play again.

Played here midweek April 06 (£20 using a county card ).
Very enjoyable front 9 that's nicely designed .The pick of the holes are the 2nd & the 4th & there are no weak holes .
The back 9 carries on in the same pleasant fashion until you reach the 12th where there are 3 bland & unimaginative 'new' holes (probably designed by somebody like Donald Steel )which are out of character with the rest of the course .This upsets the balance of the layout.For example,after the 16th (a superb short par 3 ) we wandered around one of the old replaced holes (now a practice ground) for about 5 mins trying to find the 17th tee.In the end we asked someone on the 18th & they pointed us along a hedge to a hidden tee about 150 yards away. Although 17 is a nice hole the last 2 are hilly & the whole round starts becoming a bit of a drag.
The greens were heavily sanded on the visit (we weren't told this when we phoned despite asking about the general condition ).
Overall it's a pleasant ,scenic course with excellent views ,it has a superb set of par 3s & a very good front 9 but the layout & the new holes on the back 9 let the course down to the extent that i'd say it's o.k to play once but i don't think i'd return.

Played this course a few times now and it is always in excellent condition and a good test of golf.
First time I have played it since the three new holes added. Not sure whether it is an improvement.
You also need to get a keycard number from the pro-shop to enter the bar which I found strange.
