Played Coombe Hill for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago, very (very) impressed. Fairly gentle start, but the course begins to show it's teeth from about the 4th onwards. We played it from the back tees and it is a true test of golf. Quite a few par 4's that play completely differently to the yardages on the card due to elevated greens! And I don't think I've ever played a course with such an intimidating collection of par 3's. The course was in fantastic condition, possibly one of the best manicured courses I have ever played. The greens were outstanding, and the teeing areas/fairways spot on. I'm trying to think of some negatives, but honestly, I can't. If you do get the opportunity to play here, grab it with both hands. Calls for accurate driving, and your iron play has got to be spot on. Unfortunately, mine wasn't but it didn't detract from what is an absolutely awesome track.

I was extremely fortunate to play Coombe Hill in an inter-club competition in mid-March. After the wettest winter in memory, it was muddy in places but the course had recovered surprisingly well. It is a very impressive track with some lovely routeing through a mixture of mature trees, rhododendrons and heather. It may look short on the card but this course is tough, especially if you are playing it for the first time. The greens had been recently dressed but ran true. In their summer finery I would imagine that they are very quick, as with only a few exceptions they are heavily sloped. After a gentle start the course beefs up at the long third with its severely sloping raised green. Two shortish but tricky par 5’s are followed by the first of four magnificent short holes. The SI1 eighth is a brute – uphill all the way with another back to front sloping green, and if you go past the flag you are faced with a nightmare putt down the hill. The ninth is another delightful short hole surrounded by rhododendrons, and the tenth is a cracking driving hole over a bomb crater downhill to a well bunkered green. After another tough uphill par 4 you arrive at one of the most difficult short holes I have played; a small plateau green surrounded by trouble on all sides. Two short par 4’s precede another super dog leg par 5 with a ditch crossing the fairway 50 yards short of the green. The final three holes are all difficult, the sixteenth another uphill par four, the final short hole encircled by bunkers, and the eighteenth a fantastic driving hole with a blind approach shot to a large flat green. The clubhouse, which must be a hundred yards long, is magnificent. It has all the quality and facilities you would expect of a club of this stature. The food and service were also excellent. In summary, a wonderful experience, and well worth a visit.

Played Coombe Hill Golf Club last week and was very impressed. The golf course was in exceptional condition and has a great layout. Some really great holes and the Par 3s in particular are brilliant!! The golf course is a genuine hidden gem and must play for every golfer in the South East.

If you ever get the chance, make sure you play Coombe Hill at least once in your lifetime. I've just returned from playing a round at Coombe Hill this morning & although the weather put a slight downer on the proceedings, the course more than made up for it! A real thinking mans course with bunkers strategically placed to swallow any drives that aren't arrow straight. A driveable Par 4 to open with (if you're feeling confident), may lull you into a sense of security......but this course hits back!! The Par 3's are fantastic & very pleasing to the eyes, if not the scorecard. Some great driving holes where you can really let rip if you're hitting them straight, but it's very hilly......so a trolley is a must (at the very least). Bearing in mind the weather we've had the past week (constant rain), the course was in fantastic condition.......both fairways & greens. Be sure to stop at the halfway house, as it is probably the best i've experienced & the homemade soup proved to be a lifesaver! A very friendly club, that i'll definately be returning to!
