5 reviews of Colchester Golf Club

I have been a member at Colchester since the start of 2008 and I have to say, it's a lovely club. There's a friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse and no shortage of events happening. The facilities are far from state-of-the-art, but more than adequate for a small members club. As for the course, it's always in excellent condition and through the summer months the greens are some of the best you'll play on. Admittedly, due to the clay soil, it does suffer some drainage issues in the winter. It's a much more difficult course than it appears at first glance and one which rewards accuracy as much as (if not more than) distance.

I believe the gentleman who refers to playing Colchester as a nine-hole course, and to it recently being expanded to 18 holes, must be referring to another course in the area. Colchester has been an 18-hole course since 1937!

contrary to the message above, colchester is a demanding test of golf. the back 9 is especially hard with some testing par 4's. having been a memeber for several years in the past, i would say you will struggle to fibd a better round of golf in essex.

Played here many times whilst I was living in the area. When i first started playing here it was only a nine hole course, not too demanding. But now it is a 18 hole course it is much better, Low handycappers will not be too pressed around the course, but its in a nice location and its nice to shoot low scores once in a while!!!

Played the course on a beautiful sunny february morning. Due to a morning frost the flags had literally only just been put back on the greens but unfortunately the tees were placed at least 10 -20 yards in front of the normal yellow markers, which apparently is common practise here for at least a day or two if there has been a frost. The remainder of the course was in very good condition for this time of year with the greens in particular, being as fast and as true as you will find most clubs will ever be! Playing here again on 7th March with a society and can't wait, hopefully the tees will be back on there markers so we can appreciatte the course as it is intended. By the way the sausage, egg and chips are almost as good as the greens!!
