Played last week on Chobham's own 241 scheme and for £22-25 depending on the day you play it's good value.
Course generally and greens were in good condition and we felt it was a fair test - challenging enough but playable for most handicap levels.
Playing the 15th in front of the club house and then crossing the road to play the last 3 holes seemed a bit odd and you have to wonder whether they should consider some re-routing.
However what should have been a very pleasant if not a "must come back" experience was spoilt by the attitude of some of the members.
We ended up following a quite slow four-ball of members from the 8th to the 17th (where we walked off) and clearly they were never going let mere green fee players through.
Shame really because otherwise I'd have no hesitation in recommending the club and I couldn't now.
Played here at the weekend and thought the course was in great condition given the recent weather. The greens are first class and they have avoided using temporaries all winter. Much drainage work over the past few years is evidenced by the fairways being good for this time of year. The course is fairly short (par 69) but not without challenges and tree planting has tightened many holes up. Some great holes on the back 9 especially 12th and the two long par three 15th and 18th (both over water). Club house is very friendly and staff look afteryou well.
This course is pretty shot 5500 yards or so with 6 par 3's and only 1 par 4 above 400 yards (401). This said it is still a test with plenty of hazards on every hole. It's shortcomings are a distinct lack of roungh and the fairways weren't in great condition when we played. Greens were excellent as were the bunkers and the setting is lovely - plenty of holes with blind tee shots. The par 5 on the front 9 (5 or 6) with water down the right was a great hole and I liked the 18th 215 yard par 3 over water but apart from that not many holes really stick in the memory.
This course sells itself as "Friendliest course in surrey, I am afraid its anything but friendly and does not welcome visitors only members. We tried to get a booking at twilight and after they found out we werent members told us we couldnt book a time, hardly friendly. We play off a low handicap with certificate so avoid if you can.
chobham has improved greatly over the years with more and more members saying its getting better every year. Their are some great holes with a few long par 3's 15th and 18th being the toughest they can play nearly upto 200 yards with water. A very friendly club house, been open for just over 10 years now.
Chobham is a fairly new course of which I have just joined. The holes vary dramatically and it is a very FAIR course. My favourite holes are the 8th, a par 4 downhill dog leg left and the 13th, a par 5 dog leg left with the green down a dip. The clubhouse is very welcoming with an open plan lounge area.
