Played here Sunday after a lot of wet weather the previous week. The course was pretty boggy, surprisingly poor drainage and meant you had to stay on the short stuff to get round. Greens were in good condition but the main gripe was the state of the tee boxes, nothing worse than an uneven lie when teeing off, half the time the ball was above or below your feet. Welcoming staff and starter was good and a very smart clubhouse.

I very much enjoyed this course and would disagree that this is a course for people who do not know better (I find that comment particularly patronising). There is a place for all types of courses as long as they are well looked after and Chart Hills is a good choice if you do not want to play a Links Course. Chart Hills has a variety of different holes and I would recommended it. The only gripe that we have is that there were a lot of bunkers GUR but as there are hundreds of them, then this is not surprising. The club house was friendly with the starter and person by the bag drop being especially nice. In summary, look at the website and you will see exactly what the course is and if you like this type of course then play it and you will not be disappointed.

I'm afraid I have to STRONGLY disagree with many of the previous reviews. This is exactly the sort of artificial course that sits in the category of dull and fake Americana. It lacks any character and, whilst fine for those that don't know any better, not recommended for the knowledgeable golfer.

Played here last weekend. The golf course was excellent, a real treat. Although the weather was perfect I'm sure the course would be great in the winter as it struck me as a very good draining course. The layout is very testing with accuracy rather than length the key to shooting a good score. Personally I think this is one of the best courses in the South of England, the whole atmosphere from course to clubhouse was superb and I will certainly be returning.

What an experience! From the moment we were greeted by the staff at the bag drop, the very helpful Lady Starter (who gave us some useful pointers), through to the guy in the changing room, we were made to feel at home. The course was in very good condition despite the recent wet weather. The greens are quick but true (although not the easiest to read on occasions!). The bunkers here are legendry and, at first sight, seem too numerous. However, they do make you think, and prudent play is rewarded - cavalier play is fun too! Although not cheap at all, certainly one of the best value "top of the range" courses in England that I have played.

A tough course from the start. At the first hole you have to decide just how far down the fairway you want to go, but also how many bunkers you're prepared to cut across to achieve it. From there on it's all about avoiding the sand, of which there is a LOT. I don't remember any holes that I felt ruined the course and it was in as good a condition as any place I've ever played. The greens were excellent, and for once I couldn't blame any bad putts on anything other than my own shortcomings. I know it's not cheap, but for Chart Hills it's certainly worth the money.

Fantastic course. My local pro said this was his favourite course in the country. He might be right! Greens were perfect and design excellent. No weak holes anywhere on the course. We played the blues and it was a challenge but a very fair challenge. We all left with the impression that £45 for a weekday round was actually very good value for money. Go play!

A 'must play' course. Superb facilities for dining, leisure and practice. The condition of the course is immaculate, the greens in particular. There are no ordinary holes at Chart Hills, each has been thought out and each provides its own feature or challenge. If there is a course in the South East of equal standard that offers the same or better value, I'd be surprised. Don't forget to bring your sand wedge !

great course and good value for £40 with breakfast.we played off the blue tees as we were told the yellows might be a bit short and it was a hard but fair course from those tees, i would recommend if you are 12 h'cap or below to ask the starter if you can play of the blues i really enjoyed it and played ok but it didn't stop me from dumping my ball in the water on the lovely short 17th :-)

Played this course off the yellow tees which were perfect for a relatively high handicapper like myself. The course was in perfect condition and a joy to play some holes were quite daunting but, with a cautious attitude decent scores can be made. My favourite holes were the 9th and 17th.

Well, as mentioned, I played Chart Hills again on Thursday evening and the course was in superb condition although the greens were not quite as fast as I remembered them (they WERE in lovely condition though) Didn't play as well as I could but I DID PLAY THE 12th PROPERLY THIS TIME and was unlucky not to make birdie when my first putt from 8 feet "lipped out".... Highlight of the round was when the 16 handicap mate I was playing with messed up his drive a bit on the 5th (par 5 "anaconda") knocked a three wood up the fairway and then holed out from 160 yards with a 5 iron for an eagle 3!!! We paid £30.00 for a "twilight" green fee and considering the quality of the course would consider this fantastic value for money. Seriously, if you have'nt played Chart Hills yet, get yourself along there...especially if you can get some sort of deal on the green fee. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Going back to play here this evening. Really looking forward to it as I heard earlier this week that the course is really in good shape. Will remember to play the 12th a little differently THIS time!

Some colleagues and I played last week on the Winter deal of £52.50 for two rounds and lunch and what value we got. From the moment I booked until we left that evening the service we received was excellent. The food was very good and the course as unforgiving as ever with the greens for this time of year fast and true. My only suggestion would be to have another set of tees as the yellows are too short and the whites were too long for some of our fourball. Overall fantastic day and we will definitely be returning

Played here on Wednesday of this week with three friends, special deal of £32.50 which included a full english breakfast which made it great value for money!! Asked the starter if we could play off the blue tees which he allowed and this made for a much more interesting game! Tees were in fair condition although the yellows looked a little more "tired" fairways were a little scruffy but this is due more to the weather we have had this year than bad greenkeeping....but the greens!!! I have played here a couple of times before but the greens were so fast. God help you if you put one a couple of feet past and left yourself with a downhiller! Would recommend this course to anyone, especially if they get the same deal that we got. TOP TIP... DO NOT TRY TO CARRY THE WATER HAZARD AT THE PAR 5 12th (especially when playing into the wind) AS THIS WILL SERIOUSLY WRECK A GOOD SCORE CARD (18 points out, 13 in!!)

Good one, well done Nick! Read the previous comments and yes the course would be short off the yellows. I played off the blues courtesey of the starters instruction. I can only comment off those tees but would observe that unless you can confidentally carry the ball 250 yards plus off the tee, well you will be left with a lot of course planning. Very American in style, some tees you stand on and play spot the fairway amidst a sea of sand. A good mixture of styles of hole, pleasant countrtyside, course condition was ok given that we are in the middle of what is for us a major heatwave - tees were a bit variable, fairways and greens mostly ok. Cant fathom the green fees - Times guide quotes £200 per tee, ie £50 per head for a 4 ball or £100 each for a 2 ball. My playing partner and I were required only to pay £30 each at which I would have to say this course is remarkable value. Bonza!

When I booked the day I did not bother to check that, as a single figure club golfer, I would be allowed to play off the tees of my choice. When we walked onto the middle (white)tees we were told these were for members use only and we should have to use the yellows. On the card the distance from the yellow is 5,800 yds but as many of the tees were placed close to the red tees the distance played was nearer 5,500 yds. The advertising, WEB site and hype say this is a championship course. Be warned that this is NOT the case off the yellows as 50% of the hazards are already behind you or not in play (the stroke index one hole ends up as a six and eight iron hole as opposed to a long accurate drive to a narrow fairway followed by a good mid iron over water). I would not recommend a regular golfer whose home course is a challenge play this course unless you can get off the white tees where it would undoubtably be a great course.

I played as part of a society and the course was superb. Plenty of hazards to contend with including one hole which, when looking at the pin from the tee area, resembles the surface of the moon with so many bunkers. The water hole, which i think is the 17th, is great. A perfect veiwing area as well so you can watch the rest of the society member lose ball after ball. The staff were great. Having arrived abit behind schedule and my fourball already playing the second hole one member of staff drove me to the group briskly so I didn't miss out on many holes. Pay the dough and go. Well worth it!!

WOW!!! What a day. Just played in a national competition at Chart Hills. Didn't win (nearly got the longest drive though), but who cares when you have glorious sunshine, great playing partners and a golf course that has easily put itself into my top two courses I have ever played (and I have played some beautiful courses around the world). The tees are superb, the fairways are fabulous and the greens, well, you know that the greens are so true at Chart Hills that if you miss your putt here it is your own fault not the green. I would definitely play the course again, especially if I was invited by a member or anyone else for that matter (joking of course), I would play Chart Hills any time. Great time, keep it up! Steve

Played this course on Friday, 8th Feb as play of a society and found this course to be superb. After having had poor weather conditions the prevailing days I feared the worsed. But once on the 1st tee, it played brilliantly. The course itself is a true measure for any handicapper and the 140 bunkers added with lots of water makes this course a pleasure to play. The 17th water island hole is a great one to test players ability and nerves and I would recommend all golfers to give this one a try. Will definitely be going back in the summer.

I played this course again with a group of 12 and found the condition to be better than it was last time I was here. The greens were electric and the fairways perfect. The staff were once again wonderful and couldn't do enough to make sure our day went smoothly. We will all be back again next year!

I played chart hills as a member of a society and I can honestly say the staff and course were superb. This is without doubt the best course I have ever played and would love to go back, even though it is a little pricey. This is a truely great golf course.

Played 2 round at Chart Hills in April. Didnt get off to a great start as the course demands softspikes which cost a fiver to have changed over but the queue to get them changes was awful. Pro shop very bland although nice touch givign away free tees and pencils. Course had drained very well as a considerable amount of rain had fallen. The different tees make this course playable for all standards, the back tees make it a real test at over 7000 yards. There isnt a weak holes on the course, the fairways are superb allowing for great divots and the rough is controlled. Very intimidating tee shot on the first and more sand than a arabs desert. Overall a great golf course would return without hesitation.

I don't agree with Mark Hindmarsh's appraisal of the staff. Having booked for 2 rounds tee times in the morning at 7.30, we arrived and no one was present. We were therefore delayed in starting. As a consequence the stewards then proceeded to harrass us for the rest of our morning round, since 6 ladies pairs (we were playing in fours)were coming up behind us. Our second four let them through under pressure from the steward, meaning their rounds took getting on for 5 and one half hours. We refused to let them through for the final 3 holes and suffered a very "new money" attitude in abuse. It took the shine off an eagerly anticipated and expensive day. Having written that, the course is excellent and the stepping stone style placement of the tees do make it an excellent test for all standards of golfers. Recommended despite the attitudes we encountered.

My favourite course in the home counties. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. No matter what your ability this course is difficult but fair and offers alternatives at every shot. The thinking man's golf course.
