Very nice course. Interesting and varied holes that wind through some lovely woodland.
Greens imaculate although quite difficult! The 10 th is amazing looks like amen corner at augusta. The club house does look a bit dated but its a members club so all the moneygoes into the course.
An old fashioned HS Colt course that must get a bit wet after rain, but even in early Spring with no leaves on the trees an interesting, pleasant round that was not too expensive. Raised tees, sloping greens, but little rough in early March, made for a round that should have scored better. The greens take some getting used to, even short putts missing by a bit! Yes, worm casts in evidence (Far better than Hythe Imperial!) and the course was not in the greatest shape (one short hole was being repaired but I scored a birdie on the winter green!), but friendly members and good service.
Played the course many years ago. It has now deteriorated. Many areas which need care and attention, such a shame. Tees and bunkers were very poor. Many members seem unhappy.
Clubhouse is dirty and service was poor.
Lovely setting, especially the front nine which winds its way through woodland. Surprisingly dry given the wet summer the rest of the country have had, with some almost links-like fairways.
Found the greens to be true but slow - members seem to think they are better than they were earlier in the summer and to consider ourselves lucky! There are one or two scruffy areas around the course, which suggest a bit of attention to detail wouldn't go amiss.
The course itself isn't playing long due to the run on the fairways. As I said, the greens are slow and therefore receptive, so if you can get used to the pace it can be a fairly easy course to score on. The par threes are the strongest aspect, holes 2 and 11 are escecially good.
The clubhouse was excellent, slightly small but pleasant nontheless with good food and bar facilities. It was also nice to be able to walk up to practice on a full range, although the quality of the range balls isn't great.
What the club have here is potentially a fantastic venue, it just needs a bit of tidying up and some TLC to get it up there. Maybe a bit of lengthening would help too, just to add to the challenge!
Played in late december 2003 at a reduced rate of £10 since 3 holes were shut due to vandalism. Very nice course (as you'd expect with a course designed by Harry Colt) especially the woodland holes. Quite hilly in places and several holes have great tee shots over steep valleys which add to the fun and makes distance jugdement really tricky. Greens were not the best when I played but this was after some very heavy rain. Must be a fantastic course in the summer.
The details of this club are no longer accuate. The secretary has changed and the fees have been increased. I suggest that the club make the appropriate changes. The course is without doubt the best in East Kent.
