Very nice course, though not long. Good variation of holes, with contours and greens that have borrows on them. Good value with a county card. The professional is a very nice guy. Highly recommended.
Played here as a society and was made to feel very welcome by the Pro and all of the staff. The course was in great nick and also pretty quiet so we did not have the annoying issue of groups up our backside or having to wait behind slow golfers. The course itself is surprisingly varied with a nice use of the landscape. It has natural contours which really add to the experience and prevent two holes from being the same. It opens on a stiff par 4 that even a bogey feels like a good score but then goes to a short par 4 where most golfers would expect to capitalise on it. It continues in this vain along all 18 holes with a good test of golf. Well worth playing and our society will be back.
Played here January ,2011. Decent parkland course . First few holes are reasonable but the course gets going from the downhill par 5,6th .From here to the finish the holes are good. Good par 3's. Nice trees on the back 9 (although the row of poplars imbetween the 5th/6th? look out of place) & there's a pretty loop of 6 holes at the end of the round . 18th green is positioned for the original clubhouse ,so there is a bit of a walk back & the putting green is a bit too far from the 1st tee. Decent clubhouse but snack menu prices are higher than average. Course would make a worthy society venue. Kevin B.
I've played at Calcot Park several times over the past few months and have to say that it stands up pretty well over the winter period. Whilst it is obviously a better course in summer, it plays well in winter although it can be a trifle damp. It is pleasing on the eye, and whilst not overly long, is a fair challenge to all levels of golfer. A special mention needs to be made about the half-way hut and the clubhouse, which are both excellent. A fine course in a good golfing area.
Haven't played this course yet but I'm looking forward to soon. My home club has just lost our great professional Mark Grieve to this club. My home club's loss is Calcot Park's gain.
I have been a junior member of this course since the 1st August 2003 and i have fount the corse challenging but quite short. I have brought my handicap from 24 to 15 between then and 15 Feb. Very nice and well looked after people are friendly!!!!
I have to agree with the previous comments. This is a wonderful place to play. Our society visited back in August, and both the condition of the course and hospitality we received from the staff was about the best we found all year. So much so we have already booked a return visit in 2002 !!
An enjoyable course to play. Helps if you are straight off the tee, as there are quite a few trees to contend with. The greens were fast and well looked after. A friendly club set in wonderful surroundings.
I feel this course,East Berkshire and Bearwood lakes are the best in Berkshire but this one pips my vote
Incorrect name of secretary -should be John Cox
