Played the course twice in Aug and i have to say it is not a pushover, lots of interesting holes and agree with comment about the water hole it is very challenging indeed. i believe they are changing the layout to coincide with a new clubhouse and i think it will end up being very difficult when the wind blows
Have played Brean about 3 times over the last five years and it has improved each time. Although being far from long Brean can be challenging in the wind and you may find driver is not the best option on quite a few holes. A stream runs across some fairways and alongside others to keep your attention. Several new holes have been added and each has offered a new challenge. The 14th is especially interesting only a 220yd par 4 but if you go after the green you have bout 200yds of wet stuff to carry and if you go through the back (as I did) the return from the waiting bunkers is to a green that slopes away from you and towards the water. There are birdies a plenty to be had at Brean if you go after them but doubles (or even trebles) are not an impossibility either especially if you get your ball wet.
Played twice at the beginning of May. The course is flat and quite short but the use of ditches makes it more challenging. Criticisms, 3 new 'American style' holes have been brought into play recently which don't really blend with the rest of the course. Hideous brick built piers on the new bridges over the stream. However excellent value for money on a holiday course that is being improved.
I am surprised by the other reviews on this site as being so positive. I played the course in August 2009 and found a hugely uninspiring 18 holes, which were in terrible condition. The majority of the greens were bordering on unplayable, with very little grass on them.
The course design looks like it was probably the winning entry in one of the kids' competitions in the nearby leisure park, it really is that poor.
Awful.
iam just about to start my second season as a member at this club.i find the other members and staff at the club to be extremley friendly.which is one of the reasons why i have decided to join again.they have all made me feel very welcome.the staff in the pro shop are always willing to help and offer there advice.the course its self can be very testing especially when the wind gets up.if anyone is in the area it is well worth a visit.
With the discount offered for camping at the next door holiday complex, this course offers excellent value for money at only £25 for myself and the two lads to play all day.
With many holes having water, a couple of canny doglegs and challenging drives there is plenty to keep you interested. The flat land has been well compensated for with some tricky greens, trees and drains and the wind can make or break your card. Notable holes are the long par 4 3rd, the par 5 17th and the feature par 3 18th over the ponds.
I have played this course on many occasions and feel that this is a splendid course.
Though very flat the design has incorperated plenty of water and sand hazards, to catch those who think they are in for an easy round. The greens are excellent and always highly maintained and are a great challenge as they twist, rise and dive to add to the technicality of the course. the tees also are highly maintained. All the staff in the club house and pro shop are very friendly and helpful. Its always a pleasure to play at Brean and the price is of a fair standard to.
