Ah! Basham Park. I had the best years of my life at the Park, learnt to play there,in the year 1993. Joined the club within a year met some of the most friendly golfers who became my friends for many years. The course is set up to the best standard by whoever was the green keeper, originally the council ran the course and it was unbelievably good for a municipal, golfers came from far and wide and loved it.Steve Hesk was brought in to change the problems we had with drainage, and did a supurb job, however it took around two years total. The main plus at Basham,is that all the members who give there time to help and join the committee, are genuinly concerned about the club course and members and guests. The catering has always been top drawer for me I imbibed their daily, there is also a very good team bonding at the park especially with handicap team.Unfortunatly I've moved down south and haven't played there for five tears, but it's always in my heart and soul, may you continue to open your wide arms to receive new friends and members.all the best bomber.

We visit the park often and was there yesterday. I must say that the greens are in much better condition now we have had some sun. We always enjoy a round of golf here and have never had a problem with members at the club. I cannot comment what the course was like a few years ago but can say that it's a beautiful course this time of year. Thanks to all the staff at the course for making my day so enjoyable.

I was a member of Blackpool Park until this year( still am until end of March). This use to be a great course when I was a boy. Good greens, well kept fairways etc.But now i have to say that it's going down hill rapid. The course has been leased to a so called Golf group!! Who,when they took over said they would improve the greens, but all they are doing to the problem area's is cutting the size of the green down to get over said problem. Some greens are now half the size they were. Fairways, bunkers, tee's are average when at their best.If this course fell into the right hands could and would be one of the best on the Fylde coast. But I'm afraid to say it will get worse before it gets better!!!

Good municipal but not great. Interesting varied holes. No water. Greens need improvement, even a good cutting would help; quite long thus slow. Price was £19 midweek which is very high compared to other, better muni's in the North West. Girl on the booking office didn't seem to know what she was doing. Didn't know the code to the lockerroom door.. so had to change in the car park. Biggest letdown - Wednesday is members competition day. Was followed by 3 of the rudest members we've ever had the misfortune to meet. No etiquate.. seemed to resent the fact that (despite the high green fees we paid) we were playing on THEIR course. Really spoiled the round.

Don't believe the comments below, written several years ago - they should have been removed from this web-site long ago!! What hasn't changed is the fact that Blackpool Park is an attractively laid-out, 18 hole, 6048 yds, par 70 (white tees) park-land course which provides a good test of golf for mid and high handicap golfers. It will not appeal to anyone accustomed to playing manicured, private or Championship standard courses, or to those few golfers who can "bomb" the greens from 350 plus yards! Blackpool Park is the only municipal golf course in the local region. Blackpool Borough Council maintains and improves the course and it also offers the most attractive annual playing contracts and per-round prices on the Fylde coast. A separately managed private members club, located in the comfortable club-house, provides a full catering, social and weekly competition calendar for its members. Long-term improvements are ongoing at present (March 2008) to course drainage, greens and bunkers. The course is always at its best for Open and main club competitions in July and August. After periods of prolonged rain, before travelling, always check the message service on 01253-395349 (after 8.30 a.m.) regarding the use of trolleys and disabled buggies and that the course is open for play. For 2008, golf societies are being attracted by the best deal in Blackpool - a bacon buttie and coffee on arrival, a round of golf and a dinner (various menues) starting at approximately the same price as a single round ticket.

The course is in excellent condition this year and is a credit to the course manager and his staff who have turned it around from the condition it was in 5 or 6 years ago when some of the more negatative comments on here were posted. Please don't let these comments put you off as it really is a different place these days. See our website for further information, prices, photos etc.

Updates: Information and bookings 01253 478176. Prices - adults (incl. seniors) 20.60 weekend, 17.85 mid-week, juniors 18 and under 9.20. Fee of 1 pound for booking up to 1 week in advance, no fee if booking on the day, Blackpool residents 10% discount The best value for money course available in this area. Members agree that the course has improved greatly over the last couple of years and current ground-staff are constantly working on improvements - don't believe old messages still shown here. However, conditions do vary greatly according to weather. Expect excellent greens, bunkers and fairways prepared for competitions in July / August. We have problems with seagulls lifing replaced divots to find worms and with animals walking and digging in bunkers plus some player's not raking bunkers or repairing pitch-marks. Re. the 9th hole - frequent problems with balls being hit 60 yards out of bounds into the nearby hospital grounds has resulted in it being shorted for normal play. A temporary, fairway, yellow Tee is in use - played as a par 4. This is in front of the red, par 5, ladies Tee box. The white, par 5, men's Tee box is used only for competitions. A new yellow Tee box is under construction. All in all - great value!!

My favourite course as a beginner, only played 3 others, (one was in Portugal though!) As a contract holder, I have seen some great improvements over the last 2 years, especially on the 9th green. Only gripe is unavailability of tee times at weekends, due to comps!

Last time I played I was unhappy with the greens, playing mid summer whilst comps are on seems to have paid dividends! Still a long way to go. If it was a private course I'd love to see some green restructuring, but that will never happen. Worst bit was the par 5 9th, put the yellow tees in fornt of the womans tees! I hit a long ball, but to be 40 yards away from the pin from the tee on a par 5 is ridiculous! Mind you only getting par from so close was infuriating!

i have been a succesful junior member at the BPGC for a few years now and i feel that the course has greatly improved from when i first joined at the age of 13, for example the course was always shut because of drainage problems, but now after having fixed the problem i feel the course is improving day by day. however i must express my disgust at blackpool borough council for spending minamal amounts of money on greenstaff and machinery for them, if allistair mckenzie were alive today he would have a dickies fit at them for slowly recking a great test of golf. anyone who is a member will keep the BPGC at heart and anyone who plays there will always be welcomed with a smile.

Well being a current member of the BPGC i am goin to be biased naturally. There is no better place to be for competition, social and atmosphere. Beneath all the torn greens and rugged fairway there is a new turf that rubs on all members. Everybody somehow does find a highlight to their round wether they have shot a new high record or just been dicked by a 58 or something stupid like that which occurs regulary. The Bpgc is kept in the heart by all members and is seen as a second home. We have players that are so enthusiastic that have the BPGC tatooed on their arm ! May they be praised. I enjoy playing here so much and i am priveleged to be a part of such a great british pastime favourite at a club that never closes its heart to any member.

I was a member here 15 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed playing here, I still enjoy the course but don't find it that challenging. The greens aren't bad, but could be a lot better if watered and rolled regularly (Probably not in the council budget, roundabouts and speed cameras are, shame)! The front 9 is always a test, no matter what handicap you are, the back 9 is up and down but all in all, not bad.

blackpool park, i think is one of the best designed courses in the fylde. i've been a member there for a year and a half and i am never tired of playing it. it is a good course to play in the summer and the new greenkepper sould make the course look even better this year.

As the course manager of this club it is encouraging to see comments on our course, however I would question the length of time that comments are allowed to remain on this site. Negative comments on the course may well be justified but not for three and a half years, if you played the course and were disappointed a few years ago then do what others have done and try it again. The course closures were significantly down 2002/2003, the greens are consistant and improving, the fairways and semi-rough are excellent, the bunkers are still poor but works are planned this winter. The design of the course is superb (Dr. A. Mckenzie) and I play the course at least once a week, it is extremely enjoyable time after time. The clubhouse is excellent and welcoming. See you soon. Steve

Blackpool Park Golf Course is in excellent condition this year due to our new greenkeeper and his staff. There has been substantial work done to the course due to problems with the drainage and each week it is improving. I have never seen the fairways, greens etc. looking as good and it is a delight to play.It is great to hear all the comments from golfers who have recently played the course, I haven't heard anything negative at all!!!

Posted by Penny Hirst on 28/06/2003

As my 'home' course, I think this is an excellent test for beginner/intermediate level players. The course has a few tight par 3's and 'Amen Corner' on the dogleg 6th, 7th and 8th holes require a good balance of distance and accuracy. A difficult par 4 start and new water features this season on the 3rd, 17th and 18th holes has made it more challenging. For a municipal course, it's great value and I never tire of playing it. Enjoy.

Posted by Leo Armer on 25/03/2003

I disagree with the comments above - the course isn't the greatest test of golfing skills but nor does it profess to be - it's a municipal course and for £13.50 blimey you're expecting a lot!!! As a rate payer in Blackpool I feel the course is kept to adequate standard but I would like to see more done about the drainage - it's ALWAYS shut in winter!!! But....for 13 quid its an enjoyable 4 hours if its not too busy. I agree Duxbury is better though
