7 reviews of Blackley Golf Club
Played this course with our small society of good standard golfers, all found the course tricky, the greens were best weve played on all year and the new clubhouse is fantastic, spent a few hours after the round out on the glazed balconies, with the members who are very friendly.
At around 6300 yards its not a massively long course but you need to be playing well to shoot anywhere near your handicap, there is water in play on 10 holes following tthe changes to the course. Green fees are very reasonable and the food we had was excellent.
Played this course Monday 31st May and found it not too difficult. I managed to play under handicap and achieved birdies, pars, bogeys and double bogey at a venue I had never visited before. There is a distinct difference between holes 2-7 and the rest of the course with a few blind shots. The more mature section does have a few strategically placed water features but overall a very pleasant morning.
The clubhouse and changing facilities are first rate, We will return and this is a course which visitors to the area should take an opportunity to play
Played this course whilst on a trip, excellent course and a friendly welcome, I played this course about 15 years ago and it is now almost unrecognisable from what it was, lots of water hazards and tight fairways with excellent greens, the mid handicapper mentioned in the other review would have to be major bandits to find it easy!!!!!
I play off 6 and found it a stern test to shoot par even off the yellow tees.
The club has a brand new clubhouse which opened a couple of weeks before we went which is modern and airy. If you are in the area I would recomend it over the 2 other local course North Manchester (very tired club about to become pay and play) and Manchester (Hopwood) too snooty and not very welcoming for visitors.
Using the 2 fore 1 vouchers, this is a course in two halves. Due to the M60 extension there are a number of new holes. These are played first, then you play the original part of the course. The difference in styles are huge, but if you can get past that, this is a fair test of golf and staff were friendly and accomodating.
I have recently become a member of the club (June '05), and find it a most enjoyable course though challenging at the same time. I have introduced a few colleauges who have commented on the skill required to 'beat' the course.
Iam Currently A Junior Member And Proggresing Through The Ranks. Iam In High Demand to play with and enjoy teaching the singal handicaps a few Tips. The Course Is In Relatively Good Condition With A lake Under Construction And Plans To Rebuild The Club House. Most Players Would Enjoy This Long Challenging Course.
