A good course, but not a great one. It'd be a lot, lot better if it had bunkers. There's not on eon the whole course. Fairly tight, and if you go in the trees it's thick rough and lots of gorse. Was quite windy when we played, which added to the challenge. Traffic on the roads was quite annoying, especially on one of the back 9 holes.Waiting for traffic to pass put me off my tee shot. On the whole, quite expensive for what it is, but worth playing.

I'm Ian's mate! Completely agree with everything he said about the course; excellent condition, layout and scenery although for such a top course, there was not too much to challenge. Having to cross different roads on 7 occasions was probably worth mentioning, but the roads are quiet and they don't negatively influence the course in any way. Off course was slightly disappointing in that we were unable to get anything to eat at 5pm other than jam toasties. PS. He only likes the 9th because he hit a good short to the green and got a round of applause from the clubhouse terrace.

Absolutely superb. Me (18 handicap) and a mate (7 handicap) paid 50 pounds for a day ticket in mid-June, starting our first round at 1:15pm and our second round at c. 6:15pm (time for a few pints and Kimmel between the two rounds). Finished our second round at 9:15pm and still had time for a two-hole play-off. The course is ace, with dense woodland, excellent fairays and greens. Hole number nine (shortish par 4) is an intriguing one: you tee off over a relatively busy minor road, but you won't be aware you are playing over it as it's invisible from the tee, hidden behind trees/undergrowth. Overall many of the par 4s' lack of length, and the course's total lack of bunkers, make Berkhampsted a perhaps surprisingly easy round - I carded an 84 and 90 (13 over and 19 over), while my partner carded under-handicap on both rounds.

I can't agree more with the previous review; a classic heathland course! Tight-ish fairways. No bunkers! (There are grass mounds instead which can prove just as hazardous.) Beautiful scenery. A fabulous day. (One very minor quibble with the 'photo' yardage chart: the yardages were not given from very obvious features - even when there were perfect mounds etc available.)
