Played the course on 24/02/11. Me an a friend decide give this coursea go due to numerous others bieng closed or unlayable due to heavy rain. This course was fully open and in very good condition. Although a shortcourse of just over 5000 yards, this as many others say is far from easy. This isn't a course where you can just swing away and find open fairways, you have to think about every shot. The suroundings are beautifull and give 360 degree views of the area. Even i bad weather i think the course would be outstanding.
Highlights would be all par threes especially two of then where i had to take driver to reach due to the wind! and also the 16th and 17th both very driveable par 4's bit equally could end up costing you double and triple bogeys!
Stunning views of Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and the magnificent coastline are the main attraction of this undulating course. It is a relatively short course and boasts six par 3s (including the SI 1 hole) but is toughened up by several challenging blind tee shots. Many of of holes are great fun and the SI 18 sixteenth hole must be the toughest at this rating I've seen. I did enjoy it but it was just a little too "mountain goat" for me. Great value for money using the Coastal Classic offer.
Bamburgh demands to be played, both for the quality of the course and its stunning location. Its relatively short but by no means easy: as other reviewers have noted it has several (perhaps too many) blind holes, while the rough and heather will eat anything wayward or simply topped. There are several stand-out holes. The first requires you to avoid a push or slice from the tee, as the cliffs fall away quickly to the beach. The eighth is the famous 'Island' hole, which has much of the green hidden from sight behind rocks. My favourite is probably the 17th, a 240-yard downhill par 4 which offers a good chance of reaching the green, even for moderate hitters, but which requires you to avoid the stone-walled out of bounds all the way down the right. But even if you are playing terribly, you can't fail to be moved by the views - miles and miles in all directions, with Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and Lindisfarne castles all visible. You have to feel sorry for the earlier reviewer who played on a foggy day.
Played with a group in September 05. previous day had played at Foxton Hall in shirt sleeves but at Bamburgh needed oilskins and woolly jumpers as it "persisted it down" throughout the round.
Having said that the course was tremendous and provided a very different type of challenge from a lot of courses where "crash and bash" is the order of the day. The blind holes were a real joy and the greens were very smooth given the conditions. Would have no hesitation in going back.
Excellent Course. Exceptional views.
Plenty of 'blind' holes so buy a stroke saver or play with a local!. Not one to attempt without either.
The course might be average. I would not know. I went round like a child with a knew toy and big saucer-like eyes! The total experience is truly mindblowing and irrespective of layout this is a great golfing experience. Very friendly and welcoming.
What a wonderful course. The semi blind par 3's are quirky and really good fun. It's a mystery tour on some holes but worth all the effort. The views are worth the trip on their own. Go and play it as soon as you can.
What a cracker of a course, fantastic views, great holes, a real thinkers course. Friendly staff. Well worth the effort of playing it.
Before visting Bamburgh Castle GC, two aquaintances stated it was their all time favorite course, quite a biuld up. Unfortunately I played the course in quite a heavy mist, and without the outstanding views on offer here, the course is very average. I cannot think of one outstanding hole on the course, one or two are borderline ridiculous, most just run of the mill. Every other shot seems to be blind including at least 3 par 3's. I also found the course in very poor condition (in August) considering its reputation. Not exactly a bad course, just not what it's cracked up to be. There are much better and cheaper courses in the locality. 6/10
Played this course on Friday 3rd May 2002. I went to this course to break up the journey on a Scottish golfing weekend with mates. This place surpassed any of the Scottish courses by far and was an absolute cracker. Fantastic views, freindly staff and a very well kept course. Play it.
This course is quite outstanding. The views , particularly from the 15th Tee , make this course an absolute must for any player within a 50 mile radius to play. Just outstanding.
This gem of a course has been home to our Family Challenge for 16 years now and we never tire of playing it. The course is short enough to be fun for all levels of golfer but difficult enough to leave you wanting to play it again and improve your score. Fantastic views (Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle) and usually in very good condition. Very intersting Par 3's.
Part of our annual 'On Tour'.
A cracking course with breathtaking views.
'Castles View' being the most picturesque.
Back again in April 2000.
